Commercial Description:
Cherry saison is concurrent with the best of summer weather. The days are long and warm, and the spring blossoms have gracefully turned to plump drupes. Much in the same way, our Imperial Cherry Saison undergoes subtle but noticable changes while cruising from kettle to bright tank. Like the sun ripening fruit, a pit stop makes this beer better. Cherry Saison is aged with French Oak staves, imparting overtones of spice and balancing the natural sweetness of the cherries. Cherry Saison is the first in this series to incorporate oak aging. Enjoy it as a dessert beer, or tilt it back while sitting under a shady tree on a warm summer afternoon.

Modest cherry aroma and flavor. Fine saison spice flavors. Medium body. Medium head, less than bottle conditioned saisons.

22oz bottle, from Capone’s (Norristown, PA). Pours hazy golden, capped with a thin white head. Aromas of wheat, vanilla, oak, and a very faint touch of black cherry. Nice saison flavor; wheat, some earth and mild hops, along with some oak. I really don’t get much of a cherry flavor. Long, wheaty finish with some oak character. Overall, a fairly nice saison. I like the contribution of the oak.

THOUGHTS: Nice spin on a saison. Sometimes I don’t understand why a beer like a porter or a stout with a little fruit added is listed as a fruit beer, but this one seems to be the opposite so I’m even more confused because I drank a cherry beer, not a saison with a little cherry with this one yet it is listed as a saison not a fruit. Well enough about that. This is basically a weak saison, a really good fruit beer and a pretty good beer. I never did really get any of the oak in this one. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a light orange with an average-sized, off-white head that mostly diminished. the aroma was cherry, but not sweet cherries at all. Almost a tart cherry. Some wheat too. And when it warmed up a bit more there was also slight alcohol and light to moderate earthy yeast. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and acidic, and sour; while the finish was light to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, and sour with an average duration. There was mostly cherry. Not sweet nor sour. Just like neutral cheery or probably actually slightly sweet cherries than tart cherries plus a little yeasty funk and wheat. the light to medium body was sort of watery then dry with fizzy carbonation and a light to moderate astringent finish.

22 ox bomber purchased at Lukas Liquor in Kansas City, MO. Pour is hazy golden orange with a one inch white head. Some lacing left behind. Aroma of card-boardy woodiness, earthiness, some wheat perhaps, and some very faint cherry. As this warms, the card board gives way to a more rounded oak nose. Taste has grainy, wheat, some tart cherries and a fair amount of oakiness. Some heat in the aftertaste. The residual cherry flavor that carries to the finish tastes a bit artificial. Palate was medium, chewy but still drinkable. Overall, this was a decent drinkable Saison with a hint of Cherry.

pours a cloudy yellow. aroma is saison like: earthy malt and yeast, black cherry, herbal hop. Flavour is yeasty medium malt, grassy hop, light cherry, and some lingering alc. Not a lot of oak coming through for me though.

A Mes rate: bottle from Spuyten Duyvil.
Dark golden colour with an impressive white head. Gorgeous aroma with very very slight cherry and tangerine hops accenting a superb base saison with a really good earthy character and some slight oak showing. The flavour is very Belgian indeed. Sharply yeasty, some honey like notes and again some very slight cherry. The cherry actually ends up giving it a slight medicinal feel. Slightly too much alcohol showing. Not bad but the promise of the nose was never delivered.
