Commercial Description:
Cherry saison is concurrent with the best of summer weather. The days are long and warm, and the spring blossoms have gracefully turned to plump drupes. Much in the same way, our Imperial Cherry Saison undergoes subtle but noticable changes while cruising from kettle to bright tank. Like the sun ripening fruit, a pit stop makes this beer better. Cherry Saison is aged with French Oak staves, imparting overtones of spice and balancing the natural sweetness of the cherries. Cherry Saison is the first in this series to incorporate oak aging. Enjoy it as a dessert beer, or tilt it back while sitting under a shady tree on a warm summer afternoon.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a moderate linen white head that lasted until mid-glass and left virtually no lace. Pleasant aroma of cherries, yeast and a few notes of spice. No noticeable cherry in the flavor, which is yeasty and has an odd sweetness, like an overripe orange. It was too sweet, even for me. A bit heavier on the palate than I was expecting as well. Almost waxy mouthfeel. Disappointing.

Bottle from Once Upon a Vine on 07/03/2008. Hazy golden body with a small white head. Sweet grainy, light fruity flavor, and some yeastiness. Cherries are there, but they’re certainly not dominant. Flavor of grain, sweet malts, some yeast, and cereal with faint cherry hints. There’s more cherry here than oak, and the cherry is hardly present. Medium body with moderately high carbonation. Definitely fits the saison, but the cherry and oak are weak at best, but still fairly tasty. The alcohol is not overly present in the flavor, but the alcohol warming kicks in later.

Thin light tan head fo fine bubbles. Light carbonation. Wheat, oats, light fruit, yeast and dry straw. Lots to pick out in the aroma. Color is a cloudy medium golden brown. Dry and hoppy flavor. Lots of herbal notes and spices. Plenty of yeast and grainy cereal. Light alcohol presence. Finishes a bit dry and tart with lots of herbs and lingering spices. Really very little in the way of cherry in this brew. Shame.

Draft at Stub & Herb’s. Pours a bright gold body with white head. Aroma of yeast, malts, biscuit, and some hints of cherry and oak. Flavor is more of the same. The cherry flavor isn’t very strong but it is there more towards the finish. Lively and light on the palate without being watery.

22 ounce bottle. Pours hazy straw yellow with some pure white head. Throughout the flavor and aroma its a little bit spicy, there’s a little bit of honey. Its a little too sweet. I can get some oak. Just one question. Where in the hell is the cherry? Not to be found. Its a bit too heavy on the palate and not enough carbonation. Worth a try, but the name leads you to believe that you are buying something that you do not get.

Very very faint cherry smell and taste. Im thinking the oak aging must have wiped out the fruit. A little sweet, but a pretty dull beer overall.

22oz. bomber. Hazy golden/orange color with a medium sized white head. Yeasty, fruity(not cherry) aroma with some wet hay and light spice. Mildly sweet, biscuity malt flavor with a touch of banana and a hint of oak.

So disappointing, not a cherry character to be found. When I bought this I envisioned a nice spritzy, slightly sour saison with some cherry twang. Nothing. Nada. Nil. Tastes like a regular saison, a somewhat bland one at that. Light funk in the nose, salty, some wheat, standard. Tastes of wheat, light funk, light peppery esters, & a tinge of alcohol. Southern Tier can do much better than this.
