Commercial Description:
Cherry saison is concurrent with the best of summer weather. The days are long and warm, and the spring blossoms have gracefully turned to plump drupes. Much in the same way, our Imperial Cherry Saison undergoes subtle but noticable changes while cruising from kettle to bright tank. Like the sun ripening fruit, a pit stop makes this beer better. Cherry Saison is aged with French Oak staves, imparting overtones of spice and balancing the natural sweetness of the cherries. Cherry Saison is the first in this series to incorporate oak aging. Enjoy it as a dessert beer, or tilt it back while sitting under a shady tree on a warm summer afternoon.

Pours a clear amber with moderately thick white head. Cherry flavor is nicely blended, however the beer overall is quite sugary. Flavor is slightly weaker than I had hoped for... could use some more finishing hops. Don’t think I’ll be buying this one again.

Strong cherry nose with mild oak hints. Golden body with thin whispy white head. Heavy syrupy, chewy malt backbone that is sprinkled with sweet cherry notes. Mild earthy burnt wood character. Acidic and astringent spice - slight citric orange notes. Does not mesh together well.

Bottle poured a light yellow with a thin white head that dissapears almost immediately. Aroma is bitter, sour, and cherries. Tastes very sweet and fruity initially with a very bitter finish. Mouthfeel is light in body and carbonation. The bitterness lingers in this beer as the prevalent flavor. Would enjoy more if the bitterness toned down in favor of more cherry flavor.

TAP: dark gold pour, minimal head. Sweet cherry nose with some spice, taste is sweet & fruity, then tart/bitter to finish. Decent brew, but not an elite saison.

Location: On tap at Gilly’s, 9/10/09

Aroma: Cherry (I know, shocking), some earth, and quite a bit of funk
Appearance: Fizzy, dark yellow appearance, small white head
Flavor: Flavor of tart fruit, funk, spice, and some yeast
Palate: Light-medium body, fizzy mouthfeel
Overall Impression: I thought this beer was OK, but I didn’t love it, a little overly sweet, but that may have been the goal. Not a bad beer, but not something I’m in a huge hurry to drink again either. This is an interesting attempt, a solid beer, just not a standout.

Don’t hate me. I am not a fan of Saison or fruit. Amber pour with a sweet aroma and a sweet cherry taste. I might have detected a hidden oak presence?

Pours a clear dull gold with very little in the way of a head. Lovely cherry aroma, novel but not sustainably enjoyable. Tastes like goopy sweet cherry filling, not at all funky or sour but not wheaty either. Light hop & golden ale taste in the finish. Floor polish? Minimal carbonation, thin body. Meh. Novel, but doesn’t really meet the goals they’ve set for themselves.

75 cl bottle at the RB Rochester Gathering, Aug. 30/ 09. Pours a lightly cloudy golden amber with a smallish white head and some lacing. Aroma is medium sweet with bubblegum, clove and sour cherry. Flavor is clove, cherry, light banana and light spice. Medium body, tart and dry finish.
