| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 13, 2009 This beer is deceptive in many ways. First, it is nearly black in the glass but doesn’t look particularly great, leaving just a little tan lacing above the oil slick cap. Aromas are intense chocolate. Cocoa, chocolate chips. Then another deception on the palate, where the hops grab your attention right away while the tongue anticipates chocolate milk or cold cocoa. Some nice spicing, too, of cinnamon and nutmeg to round out the flavors. Finally, you would never guess at the 11 percent alcohol. Wow. coharahawk (87), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 12, 2009 22 oz from Archer Liquor. Pours a very dark brown, nearly black with a moderate sized head. Aroma is strong with chocolate and reminds me of previously mentioned Hershey Syrup. Flavor is much the same with a mild astringency in the finish, which is not even close to representing the 11% ABV. This is another delicious and unique offering from Southern Tier. Where the Pumking is probably the best Pumpkin beer I’ve had, this may be the best Chocolate beer around. watson1977 (276), , Pennsylvania, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jan 11, 2009 Yes. I loved this. It had a rich, velvety chocolate flavor. Smooth, easily drinkable. Very dark with a light tan head. Smelled of chocolate ice cream, coffee, and walnuts. Thick mouthfeel -- almost like a shake, but dry. Chocolate through and through. Roasted barley, malts as well. I almost gulped this down because it was so good. Wish I had one for breakfast. jeff789 (411), Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 11, 2009 Jet black with a minimal deep tan head and next to no lacing alerting me to the lack of carbonation that will enhance the enjoyability... Aroma is the closest that any beer will ever come to smelling like chocolate milk... Taste of milk chocolate with a sweetness that could not possibly overwhelm the flavor... Finishes with a bit of bitterness that cuts the sweetness to ready you for your next sip... Full bodied, sticky, creamy, thick, but none in a bad way... What a wonderful beer!!!! A- Dark brown hue, tan creamy head dissipates, moderate lacing
S- Rich, sweet milk chocolate, hints of marshmallow and brown sugar, smells like an amazing cup of cocoa
T- Taste follows aroma, sweet chocolate malts dominate, some roast and bitter hops in the middle, finishes sweet and dry with a hint of alcohol, absolutely delicious for this style
M- Medium/full-bodied, smooth and creamy texture, mild carbonation
D- Wow, this is the tastiest and most balanced chocolate stout I’ve ever drank, a nice bitterness rounds out the sweet malts, the alcohol is barely detectable even at 11%, this is like having desert, and as such, probably best in smaller quantities
