Flavor was dark chocolate with the 11% alcohol covered up very well. Very smooth and delicious. WillieV (191), Maryland, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 24, 2008 1Pt bottle: Poured a very smooth black color with absolutly no head to speak of. High scents of dark chocolate and caramel. Taste is supprisingly very smooth. Taste is almost like a chocolate liquor. The 11pct alcolol to it it hidden quite well behind the strong dark chocolate taste. A very smooth.. very chocolatly stout. 17thfloor (1507), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 24, 2008 Fresh 2008 bottle. Pours a near flat black with a small bubbly frothy beige head. Aroma of a fresh banana smoothie, vanilla ice-cream, chocolate chips and light corse ground coffee beans. I must say this is not the truest chocolate aroma, nor the best chocolate taste. Just like oat and creme-brulee, this stout is both too artificial tasting and too syrupy. Flavors of fresh banana, chocolate syrup, light coffee, green hops and vanilla beans. Unfortunately the aroma is the highlight of this beer. I like the flaked chocolate and vanilla bean flavors, but the syrup like quality just blows it. Yikes, its scary that so many find this beer that delectable. Bitter green hop and dark chocolate aftertaste. Medium full bodied, its not sticky, but its lightly syrupy. Fredrick Miller Classic Chocolate Lager kicks this beers ass. Syd (903), Waconia, Minnesota, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 23, 2008 Bottle pours rather thick and black with a milk chocolate head and some spotty lace. The aroma is amazing. Yes, I dont normally get so floored by aroma, but here it is, Im floored. The aroma is of chocolate, but the really classy dark chocolate you pay big bucks for and is labeled as 70 pct. Add in some cinnamon for aroma. The flavor, serious chocolate, lots of milk, some Olvateen, and just overall chocolaty. The palate is rich, but not obnoxious. The alcohol pct is not anywhere to be tasted, aside from a heady experience much enjoyed by the rater. Overall, Im enjoying this to the fullest. jmm635 (269), Havertown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 21, 2008 Pours black with a non-existant head. Smell was unbelieveable! If you close your eyes beer is probably the last thing you would guess you were smelling. Smells just like a rich chocolate milk. Taste is exactly what you would expect - nice strong syrupy chocolate! Palate was unexpectedly smooth. Would go well with any dessert! inkubus27 (252), Highland, Indiana, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 21, 2008 I really wanted to try this, but when I did find it, I thought it was terrible. This is a great stout base, but it tastes like a cheap chocolate syrup was added to it, and that just makes it way too over the top sweet and fakey. I had a hard time choking down half a glass of this. Kinz (2215), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 21, 2008 This was a liquid Krispy Kreme chocolate glazed donut in a bottle. Black, little brown at edges. Initial nice head fades to a ring. Aroma is chocolate glazed donut, almost shockingly so. Flavor is also glazed chocolate donut. The alcohol gives the suggestion that you might be having a shot of Godiva chocolate liquor alongside your donut. Even has that yeasty quality that KK does. Quite sweet. This is a desert beer for sure. I am not big on beer over ice cream, but this screams beer float. Very well done, but almost too much in the end. lemasney (398), Trenton, New Jersey, USA
| 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Dec 21, 2008 Style and Glass: Imperial Stout, Snifter
ABV, Volume & Calories: 11% in 22 fl oz. estimated at 400 C
Purchased at: Canal’s Burlington for $8.99
Aroma: So nice, cocoa, chocolate, milk chocolate, sourness, cream, caramel, alcohol.
Visuals: beautiful packaging, as usual, utter darkness, like a night in the deep woods, black, opaque, nice tan head, strong lace.
Taste: Well balanced, syrupy chocolate, tight bitter finish, warming, strong, delicious.
Palate: High quality, smooth texture, warm, bitter finish.
Overall: dessert in a bottle. I’d have it again in a heartbeat. Likely my favorite chocolate imperial stout. It turns it to 11. Nicely done once again by Southern Tier.
