Smells immediately of chocolate and slight coffee. Without a doubt one of the smoothest, richest, silkiest beers I’ve ever tasted. It tastes like dark chocolate....delicious roast malts too. Unbelievably good. Magicdave6 (5530), London, Greater London, England

Alround rating: Big chocolate cgharacter in the nose and mouth, sweetness is perfect, its rich and balanced and really tasty. Once again southern tier has shown me it makes the best imp stouts you can buy. mjs (1505), Helsinki, Finland

Loads of chocolate and cacao powder in the aroma. Sweet chocolate milk flavor, leaving little room for anything else. Just a bit of roast in the aftertaste.
Onedimensional, but very nice indeed. FlssmrBrewAlum (1152), Lisle, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 25, 2009 Updated: Aug 3, 200922 oz bottle shred with a friend from Binnys (Plainfield, IL). Pours a pitch black opaque pour, decent milk chocolate pour that dies to a film and clings to the corners laces fairly well. Aromas ever apparent, extreme dark chocolate and roasted malts, light coffee mocha, but strong chocolate, unmistakeable. Initial is thick straight dark chocolate, light bitterness up front, aroma is true to the flavor as dark chocolate dominates the taste buds. The flavor is amazing. Pretty decent bitterness on the backend from bittersweet chocolate, good sweetness, roasted malts. Amazing flavors, a touch one dimensional, but impressive beer overall. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 23, 2009 RBESG Sheffield 2009 Grand Tasting at the Harlequin. Deep dark brown to black colour, light beige head. Aroma of rich milk chocolate, sooooo nice. Flavour is chocolate sauce, chocolate milk, sweet, light bitter chocolate finish. Medium bodied. Amazing, pure f*ing chocolate all over. Since I’ve only had a few tastes of it, I can’t judge the drinkability of this, but I would love to try a whole bottle of this stuff. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jul 16, 2009 I uncap the bomber, I smell this, and yeah... one of the best beers I’ve smelled lately, with oodles of rich chocolate. It rolls into the glass giving off sweet creamy chocolate aromas, a dark brown with deep brown head and light brown-gold highlights. Taste follows aroma, and since it’s not chilled the warming alcohol is felt but it’s not astringent. In fact the hops are not in the way like they are in many rich stouts, not a trumpeting mess of tannins, but instead the hops brilliantly set off the chocolate bitterness and rich roast malts perfectly with dryness and a little fresh mint. Beautiful oily feel entire time. Aroma to taste to finish a solid act - yes, a bit of a one-trick pony but a very excellent thoroughbred at that. cking (1023), North Canton, Ohio, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jul 15, 2009 Thick black/brown color with a huge, lasting tan head and lacing that coats the entire glass. Heavy with a bitter sweetness. Exceptionally creamy, it rolls back with ease, very satisfying. A big aroma of oatmeal and rich chocolate. Mealy bran cereal followed by more heavy chocolate. One of a kind scent that’s wonderful. I kept thinking WOW (and probably saying it out load) because I was expecting upfront chocolate, but never to this extreme. Loads and loads of high end rich chocolate followed by a malty cereal flavor. I was reminded of Ovaltine. Lots of complimenting roasted and burnt malt flavors follow, but the chocolate steals the show. Very unique and wonderfully crafted.
