Commercial Description:
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 10.0% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

After dinner only. I would imagine rating this beer would depend on when one has it. Definitely not a lawn mower beer. Best when the weather is cool and you want something sweet. Goes great with vanilla ice cream.

Bottle. Total dessert in a glass. Poured a dark brown color with a small tan head. Strong aroma of vanilla with some lighter notes of roasted coffee and caramel. The aroma of vanilla is so strong that to me it comes across as artificial. Medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is very sweet with loads of vanilla and more touches of caramel and coffee. I will agree that this one tastes very much like creme brulee but to me it’s more a novelty than anything. I couldn’t drink 22ozs of it.

WOW. poured from bomber bottle with friend and the closer to room temp this beer got the better it tasted. it was so sweet and the vanilla and burnt sugar was outstanding and the caramel flavor lingered for along time. its almost black to pour and smallish head. like all southern tier products it has an almost oily texture. but this dessert beer is very very good. just wish i would have bought more when i had the chance.

(re-rate 8/11/09) Shared bomber. Pours black bodied with dark brown circumference and minimal light tan head. I can never get over the aroma from this thing...from the time you pop the cap to the last drop! Initial nose is sweet vanilla overload, dark coffee/toffee undertones, and you definitely can smell the candied creme brulee resemblance. Taste starts surprisingly syrupy and smooth, almost slimy. Lots of vanilla, some roasted coffee and dark cola with a tad of the 10% abv coming through. Interesting note - I paired this beer with make-it-yourself creme brulee dessert just for fun, and after sipping on the beer then taking a bite, the ensuing sip of beer opened up tremendously revealing a sweet milk chocolate component and pronouncing the coffee/toffee/caramel taste even further. As it warms near the end the alcohol becomes a little more hot and undesirable, but overall this is very well done and a unique treat. (oriiginal rating 9/15/08) Bottle, shared w/ and compliments of danielcurtis81. Lots of sweet, syrupy, creaminess in the nose. Amazing taste of sweet vanilla, cream and coffee, and maple syrup. A++ for the effort on this one of a kind stout.

Wow, this beer has all kinds of stuff going on. Pours very dark brown with a brownish head to it. Smells amazing. Very sweet with aromas of vanilla, caramel. Flavor is also very sweet with the vanilla being the very prominent flavor. Massive beer that tastes like dessert in a glass. Had a 22 oz bomber that would have been perfect if I had 1-2 people to share it with.

Bomber. Pours a dark brown almost black color with a light brown head. Aroma is pure caramel, vanilla, smells great! Flavor is vanilla, caramel, coffee. Taste like a Caramel Macchiato from Starbucks. But if that was 10% abv. Hides the alcohol well. Nice syrupy mouthfeel.

Pours pitch black with a mostly receding tan head. Aroma is strong with vanilla, caramelized sugar and chocolate candies. Full bodied and sweet with soft carbonation. Quite sweet with too much vanilla for me, it tastes like a soda at times.
