Commercial Description:
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 10.0% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

i can’t remember where this bottle came from but muchas gracias if you sent it my way.

it pours fairly thin for an imperial and especially for 10%. dark brown with a thin tan head which is not easy to wake from it’s slumber. initially, this smells like a werther’s original candy... butterscotch, vanilla and it’s woody pod, high roast and maple syrup. the flavor is mostly caramel/butterscotch with a blast of cheap vanilla cream. bitter roast tries in vain to finish off but the sugar and sweetness beats it back. coffee peaks its head into the aftertaste and lingers around for a while. medium body is sticky and syrupy but surprisingly thin for a beer with so much sugar and alcohol. i would be hard pressed to drink more than 4 ounces of this stuff as it is terribly one dimensional and sickeningly sweet. now, if it tasted the way it smelled = yum! 8/3/4/3/12/3.0

2009 Bottle - Thanks BrewCzar! - Hard beer to rate...Pours a thin dk brown with a small tan head...aroma is sickly sweet vanilla creme, frosting...flavour is similar, with some coffee bitters that peek thru at the end with come cocoa, so I guess you’d call that mocha...as with other, less regarded labels I’ve had, the artificial punch in the face quickly ends the fun, so ST doesn’t get amnesty...I love trying new beers and sought this out to experience...fun to try, and to share with others, but comes across as a novelty rather than a serious stout...

This is one of the tastiest beers I have ever had. I wouldnt want to have a huge amount of it, but damn did it taste just like creme brulee and damn was it nice. It had a thick stout background to it, but it really tasted like creme brulee. Excellent beer. To be shared.

Black in colour with a thin tan coloured head, light lacing. The aroma is very intense, the sweetness is overpowering, loads of vanilla, icing sugar and even some marshmallows. The flavour is very sweet, overpowering, intense vanilla with lots of caramel, lots of sugar with only some alcohol. Very sweet mouthfeel, medium/large body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, huge caramel sweetness and vanilla.

Holy crap. This was easily the most overpowering and sweet beer that I have ever had. Insane, what happened to these new Southern Tier beers?

650ml bottle from Roland and Russell imports.
Opened on October 13, 2008.
Brewed in 2008.

Bomber. Strange brew, indeed. Small offwhite head thats short lived. An almost black colored brew ceptin for the slight ruby red glow goin on. Nose is laced with caramel, lots! Vanilla and faint coffee roast. Body is med/full, silky on the palate with a soft carbonation and somewhat chalky. Lotsa vanilla, caramel, hazelnut, coffeeish, sweet malts, coconut, Impy Stout?? Got me, cant find it! Sweet, all the above in the friggin finish. Not disgusting but damn close i think?? Hmmmmmmm.

The Vanilla of Choklat. So nice and rich and smooth. A lot of alcohol present but it doesn’t bother me. A bit hot but all the sweetness really takes over. A lot of vanilla, like an adult vanilla milk shake. Like a spiked vanilla candy martini beer.

Black pour with no head. Very distinct vanilla nose with some caramel. Tastes very much like a Worther’s Original candy. Smooth finish. Almost not like a beer, as with the rest of the Blackwater Series.
