Commercial Description:
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 10.0% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

Draught. Dark brown with ruby edges, creamy beige head. I can smell the aroma from across the table--cream, coffee, mocha, vanilla, hazlenut, butterscotch, toffee--it smells great. Flavor is similar, hazelnuts, butterscotch, dried out by the vanilla and roasted malts in the finish. Delicious chocolate aftertaste.

Bottle. Dark brown - almost black -coloured with a small beige head. Sweet aroma of burnt sugar, caramel, chocolate and hazellnuts. Overall it smells like a creme brulee. Sweet and roasted flavour of caramel, burnt sugar and chocolate with notes of hops. Roasted and hoppy finish. If the intention was to make a beer that tastes like a creme brulee, the brewer has succeeded with this one. But to sweet for me.

Wow does this beer smell like butterscotch, and from a mile away!! Like a Werther’s candy. A lot of roast in the flavor and some vanilla. A ton of butterscotch. One of the most unique crazy beers I’ve ever had. Very very sticky. Lots of lactose. This is tolerable in very small amounts.

Pour a very very deep brown nearly black.... The aroma was of sweet caramel... Almost no head from my first pour and a foamy tan head on the second, either i screwed up or the beer was too cold the first pour.... The taste was shocking to me, initially the beer was not very sweet nor was it very roasty... The roastiness comes out a bit as the beer warms... Quite creamy, alcohol is masked greatly, very drinkable... The beer finishes quite sweet almost like a cow tail in terms of how much caramel came through for me... The slight roastiness lingered the most for me...

Pours pitch black with foamy coffee colored head. Aroma of vanilla bean, custard, chocolate and roasted coffee maltiness. Tastes like a sweet desert. Very creamy custard with lots of vanilla and roasted caramel maltiness and some butterscotch. Sweet and roasty with a dry bitter hop finish.
