Commercial Description:
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 10.0% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

22oz bottle, thanks to Hophead84. Pours dark brown/black with a thin, offwhite head, specks of lace. Smells of vanilla and cocoa with some dark malt. Tastes of very sweet vanilla with some chocolate, roasty malts as well. Too sweet to drink more than half a glass. Full body, good carbonation.

The color was dark black/brown. The head was thin, tan, and fizzy. The aroma was buttercream, butterscotch, cinnamon and other spices. The flavor was sweet, eggnog, butterscotch, cherry, and cream. The palate was very smooth and thick. The finish was sweet and spicy.

Oh baby, pours dark brown with a nice tan head. Aroma is beautiful butterscotch caramel and vanilla. Flavour is initially sweet with the butterscotch pudding, some dark roast bitterness underneath and a hit of sticky alc in the finish. 10% is pretty good but could be blended in a bit more as it makes the finish a touch harsh. Also too sweet, a bomber is too much for me.

draft at the blind tigerNYNY- nose is intensely vanilla and maple syrup. notes of cola, chocolate and coffee are also there its such a thick scent though like a candle or something. it looks beautiful though tan head, with a black body. taste is sweet, vanilla, cola, flavours with a bitter hop finish. intriguing but mismatched, and tastes of artificial sweetner. maybe if i paired this with a dessert it would fair better, but on its own in the middle of a summer day in nyc, its not working its magic.

Bottle. Wow! Southern Tier loves to put delicious treats in a bottle! Very sweet as you would expect but doesn’t overwhelm the mouth. Maple, cream, chocolate and vanilla flavors. Great for a desert drink.

On tap @ Sierra. Poured in snifter very dark followed by a slap in the face of carmel and vanilla aromas. Took me a long time to knock even the snifter of it down but the flavors are so rich as if you were drinking liquid creme brulee. This is not an everyday drink, but I would be interested to see its aging capability.

22oz. Pours a not very appealing dark brown with a light brown head. Smells like burnt coffee with way too much vanilla creamer added. Body is extremely sweet butterscotch with a blast of ruby red grapefruit for good measure. Palate is surprisingly light with some decent carbonation, I expected it to be much more viscous. Very intense, split this one with a few people.
