Commercial Description:
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 10.0% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

22 oz bottle shared at RBSG. Wow this is one crazy beer. Aromas of vanilla and custard. Real Creme Brulee flavors. I couldn’t drink a lot of it, but it was there. Soooooo sweet.

Bottle at a tasting; was really looking forward to trying this one. Dark brown in color with a light brown head. Aroma was strong, with vanilla and creme brulee. Flavor was of creme brulee and vanilla; flavor was a bit much and it was actually quite hot. Cloying. Hit the mark, but this might be better in moderation.

22oz bottle from a trade with NYbeer, big thanks to Steven. Poured a very dark red/black. Dark white head. Wow, smells like vanilla icing, huge, huge vanilla, awsome smell. Big sweet vanila flavor as well, I like it. Very wild beer.

Thanks to Blake for bringing this over! Poured clear, deeper brown with a short-lived cap of tan head. The aroma was just decadent.. candied caramel, vanilla, and coffee all over with lesser notes of chocolate.. left me with a vanilla caramel cream candy impression. The flavor was sweet again, and unfortunately not as well composed as the aroma.. vanilla and caramel at the core, both amplified by alcohol warmth.. sweet and cloying at the finish, picking up some coffee.. tasty initially, but very hard to drink more than a few ounces of. Too sweet and rich on the palate from a beer perspective.. toning this down would provide a wonderful drink.

Bottle from VA. Black with a fizzy white head. Very sweet chocolate and SUGAR aroma. It really tastes like a chocolate creme brulee with big vanilla notes and a roasty finish. Big points for originality.

Holy smokes the aroma kicked this thing off big time. Just sweet burnt sugar and caramel everywhere. Big froathy head with deep body. Flavor is the exact same. Friggin amazing but all the same thing. Drink it as a special 1 time thing, because you dont want a lot of it. But that once in awhile bottle is seriously tremendous.

My Bottom Line:
The combination of lactose and vanilla sweetness explodes into coconut icing and marshmallows in this impressively perfumy tropical liqueur replacement of an Imperial Stout.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam tops the blackness.
-This is as drinkable as Bailey’s Irish Cream. Thick, super-sweet and boldly flavorful. If you are not a fan of these flavors, you might gag after two or three sips.
-There is some roasted malt and hop bitterness in the end, which team up to cut away some of the dictatorial sweetness.
-This is as aromatic as pure vanilla extract. If you set your glass a few feet away from you, you can still enjoy the beer’s aroma.
-Toffee is also found within this heaviest of desserts.
-Although I would never for the life of me attempt to drink a full glass of this (let alone an entire bomber!), I have to say this novelty drink is beautifully crafted and clean throughout. A little more restraint would do it a world of good though, imho.

Bottle.
