Commercial Description:
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 10.0% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

Bottle. Aroma of vanilla, caramel, and butterscotch. Very dark brown, almost black, hue with a small off-white head that almost fully diminished and left some lace. Flavor has tones of caramel, vanilla, butterscotch, and Iced caramel frapachino. Palate is full bodied and oily soft. Bitter on the finish. Smells amazing and very interesting idea but it’s all just a little too much. But, what the hell, it’s good.

The Dan Journal #226. Tasted 8/11/08. 22oz bomber. Pitch black hue with a hazy body. Cream ring of head. Cinnamon and caramel aromas with sweet toffee aromas. Bailey’s and butterscotch and a touch coffee. Man, this is a sweet nose! Great nose! Full bodied with a nice sweet/bitter dichotomy. Lingering and super sticky! Mixed together with a drying alcohol finish. So much flavor, so quick! Long finish and a big palate. This is definitely for sharing.

Holy Creme Brulee aroma!!....I smell loads of good stuff....very distinct caramel, butterscotch, brown sugar and some maple...smells very much like Bailey’s caramel liquor....yum yum...dark brown body with a decent tan head---very sweet---flavors of toffee, caramel candy, butterscotch, some bitter vanilla and maple....a rich slightly creamy body....its a piece of caramel with a liquid beer center, that just keeps going and going on the palate...a delicious dessert beer

Thee most aromatic, and unique smelling brew I’ve ever encountered. A little heavy on the palate, but with it’s deep hints of sweet vanilla, chocolate, and molasses on the nose, you expected that. It poured almost dark black, with a small white head that vanished rather quickly. It’s taste of rich vanilla, caramel, and chocolate malt. But becomes bitter with some coffee and at the end, nicely finishing of the almost overly sweet tone.

Aroma is sticky and very sweet - molasses, vanilla, chocolate, a touch of cinnamon; smells like a candy store. Pours black with a near white head. Taste is just like the aroma plus butterscotch, a slight hoppy bitterness and a coffee finish. Very smooth, sweet, and creamy; alcohol is very well-hidden.

1/2 pint shared with Lubiere at the Empire Brewing Co., served in a small cocktail(?) glass. AU15/08.

App.: Very deep ruby with an off-white rim. Aroma: HUGE gobs of vanilla, chocolate, creamy and lovely and sumptuous, dark rum, molasses, lives up to the name. Palate: Full bodied, flat and syrupy. Flav.: Vanilla, chocolate, cream/dairy notes, some light warm spices, dark rum; very sweet, quite alcoholic and moderately bitter with long, lingering coffee.

A huge dessert beer that would win over many non-beer drinkers.

3.6? Come on people. I cant image why anyone would give the aroma and palate of this brew anything but nearly perfect. Nose is sweet vanilla and coffee, sweet toffee malt, some fruit. Flavor is much of the same. Carbonation compliments this beer. Layers of flavor combinations on your palate throughout. Will probably age beautifully.
