Commercial Description:
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 10.0% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

Aroma is big on vanilla, bourbon, oak barrels, coffee, caramel, a mix of a creme brulee and a casked bourbon.

bottle at Ft Wayne tasting - Pours black with a tan head. It smells really great, exactly like creme brulee with the vanilla, caramel, etc. It tastes of sweet roast malt with caramel, vanilla, and butterscotch. It’s full bodied and filling, a superb dessert brew though some will find the sweetness overpowering.

Bottle. Bishops Arms Järntorget, Porterveckan. Black colour. Very, very sweet, lots of vanilla, caramel, milk, coffee. Very cloying. Guess it´s kind of a love it or hate it type of "beer".

On one hand this is not a very impressive for an imperial and it does not really taste much like creme brulee as the name suggests. On other hand I found this to be a very enjoyable beer with tons of malty goodness.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown with a decent dense tan foamy head. Aroma: Butterscotch candy and or butterscotch coffee syrup. Taste: Butterscotch, vanilla, roasted malt, and finishes with a slight bitterness. Mouthfeel: Full bodied and slightly sticky. Overall: If you picked up this beer hoping for something that tastes like creme brulee, you wouldn’t be dissapointed. This beer is just too sweet for me to want to drink more than a half a glass.

Black with a very small and quickly disappearing tan head. Aroma is vanilla and custard. Flavor and mouthfeel is heavy and sweet; it is exactly what it says on the tin. Alcohol is almost undetectable. It took almost two hours to get through the whole bottle. Felt like I had eaten a carton of ice cream by the end. A remarkable beer and one that I am definitely glad to have had, but I don’t think I’ll be trying it again any time soon.

Bottle. Pours a dark black with thin tan head, Aroma is strong with vanilla, caramel, and a bit of toasted malts. Notes of chocolate and alcohol come out. On the palate, it is smooth and creamy, going down easy for the high ABV. The flavor brings out a bit of lactose and really pulls the vanilla and chocolate out. It finishes a bit bitter, leaving a very sweet aftertaste.

Bottle. Pours a deep blackish brown, not much light coming through at all. Aroma? Whooo this smells just like dessert. Intense dark chocolate, vanilla bean, roasted malts, lactose, very sweet and intense. Thick bodied and creamy. Finish is vanilla bean and notes of alcohol. Solid beer, this could double as a dessert after a fine dinner.
