Commercial Description:
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 10.0% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

Bottle. Pours a deep blackish brown, not much light coming through at all. Aroma? Whooo this smells just like dessert. Intense dark chocolate, vanilla bean, roasted malts, lactose, very sweet and intense. Thick bodied and creamy. Finish is vanilla bean and notes of alcohol. Solid beer, this could double as a dessert after a fine dinner.

Pours a very opaque thick chocolate brown with a very thin layer of tan-colored head. Aroma is intense. It’s as if I’ve stuck vanilla beans, dark chocolate and toffee up my nostrils and inhaled. Flavor creamy, very nutty with sugared vanilla custard and notes of toffee. Amazing. Chocolate cream malt undertones. So smooth. wow.

650 ml bottle, thanks Chimay67!
Poured deepdeep dark brown with a fantastic, stable and foamy-creamy beige head. Absolutly delicious. Interesting and exciting aroma of cocoa and vanilla, fine roasted malt and caramel.Full bodied stout one with oily texture. Sweet flavor of cocoa and vanilla, fine roasted-toasted taste. Like a really fine chocolate. Nice and balanced aftertaste with cocoa-roasted grains. Dangerous because of the well hidden alcohol and the fine body...Yummm

Bottle kindly shared by Skinnyviking. Pours a dark brown with a little light brown head. The aroma reminds me of some fudge or chocolate caramels I had when I was a child. Quite sweet and nice with notes of vanilla and a faint alcohol. Flavour is extremely sweet with notes of caramel, chocolate and hops. Ending in a bitter-sweet caramel finish.

growler. Holy Dessert Brulee Beer Batman! Dark w/ strong nose of caramel. Sweet, spiked, coffee w/ too much caramel. Yeah there’s vanilla but caramel, caramel, oh & coffee caramel. Sweet covers the alcohol. It’s good, just kinda lacks that "one more glass" drinkability. Still though!

This must be the first time I have awarded a full 10 for Aroma. Wow, super rich and luxurious vanilla & roastiness overwhelms the schnoz. Dark, heavy, rich, and predictably sweet. Alcohol is pretty well hidden, but you know it’s there simply by virtue of the brew’s grand presence. It’s a rich beer, and certainly enjoyable, but it’s not necessarily complex.

Bottled 65cl@Oliver Twist
Opaque black color, small brown head. Intensive aroma of vanilla, vanilla ice-cream and cream with some roasted notes. Liquerish palate and full-bodied. Lots of "creme brulee" in the flavor as well as loads of vanilla, some alcohol, roasted malts and licorice. Total dessert beer Big bottle is good to share with friends.

Bottle from DuffmanSW who received as trade from Punkrkr27. I have been waiting for this one for quite some time. It poured dark black with small yet very bubbly head. Aroma of caramel, butterscotch, sweet cake, caramelized sugar, and creme brulee. Taste was very sweet but not as intense as the aroma. I tasted vanilla, roasted caramel, cake batter. Medium pallet. Overall so good and tasty like a dessert. Crazy beer, so amazing. Southern Tier with another amazing brew!
