Commercial Description:
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 10.0% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

750ml bottle poured into Red Wine glass (all snifters were in use!). Aroma is enormous with notes of taffy and vanilla. Nose is burnt and sweet followed by a big body of carmalized sugar and coffee. Finish is warm and malty with even more sugar. Dessert is a glass! This is one of the most heart warming beers I’ve ever tasted. Bought as a gift for my lovely girlfriend but might have to have a bottle all to myself.

(Draught) Almos black. Large tan coloured head. Roasted sugar and roasted malts in aroma. Full bodied and warming palate with medium carbonation. Roasted malts, roasted sugar, hops and bitterness in balanced taste. Liqorice and ligtly bitterness in aftertaste. Intial impression was really the one of crème brulée and the drinkin experience was an enjoyment.

22 oz. bottle. Colour... black with some translucent edges and no head. Nose... yup! That’s creme brulee! Replete with vanilla, custard and caramel. Palate... gently caressing CO2, burnt sugar, custard cream, turbinado, brown sugar, vanilla and a very long, coating finish! Very sweet, which will likely be a turn off for some folks, but I love it!

Notes from I believe the infamous site crash of Fall 08. What the shit is this? Aroma is soo much butterscotch and caramel. Flavor is similar but with a some vanilla extract added and a bit of hazelnut. Occasionally I think there is malt in there and I think I found some hops once. Just sooo overwhelming. More so than any beer I’ve ever had. So frickin cloying and syrupy.

Had a glass at the Manchester Pub in NYC. Aroma was huge, strong on vanilla and toffee light malts. Flavor was overwhelmingly sweet, strong notes of caramel and vanilla. Reminded me very much of cream soda. The beer had low carbonation, which made it seem more syrupy. Finish is super-sweet and lingering. Although I love big beers, I must admit that I found myself not completely enamoured with the prospect of drinking an entire glass of this stuff. But I did. It was an experience. I may have to try it again sometime.

22 oz bomber. Pours a deep ruby, muddy brown with a thin, white head. Leaves spots of lacing. Aroma is awesome! Really rich butterscotch, vanilla milkshake, peanut brittle, toffee. Incredibly rich. Taste is a letdown. There is tons of chocolately sweetness, butterscotch candies balanced by some really cardboardy, bitter hops. Aftertaste of coffee and dark chocolate. Light bodied for an impy. Sticky mouthfeel. Dry finish. This is difficult to drink- too much cloying.

Bomber. While I can’t imagine drinking the entire bottle, a glass is fairly yummy. Deep brown with a fast fading beige head. Aromas of vanilla extract and bourbon. Palate is soft and creamy. Taste is primarily vanilla but also toasted sugar and some coffee.

Aroma is big on vanilla, bourbon, oak barrels, coffee, caramel, a mix of a creme brulee and a casked bourbon.
