Commercial Description:
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 10.0% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

A bomber? Seriously? This large of a serving size? This review is based on, what, 3 ounces? Because after that I could take no more and it became a drain pour. Deep dark brown. A chemical and cloying vanilla aroma dominates the room upon the mere crack of the bottlecap. Too sweet. Too artificial. Too much of an accomplice in bringing on the diabeetus. Ugh. Avoid.

On tap @ Dilly Deli, deep opaque black with some ruby transparency @ the rim, minimal head that dissipates to night sky haziness. Aroma is very authentically crème brulee, with sweet cream and rich caramel and hazelnut aroma. Very full-bodied with flavor matching aroma and oily sweet syrup coating the palate. Good dessert beer.

Wow, the aroma is powerful from the moment the bottle is opened. Very sweet aroma with strong notes of vanilla, caramel. Creme brulee is definitely an appropriate title. Strong vanilla flavor with sweet caramel notes. Body is semi-thick with a bubbly mouth feel. A slight bitter finish ends a delicious beer.

Brown, black colored brew. The aroma is full of creme brulee, vanilla, sugary. Very well done! Flavor is a lot of vanilla and sugar at first. When it comes down to the right temperature the bitter tones are there. Not really exceptional flavors, some coffee, some caramel. A bit too thin. But a nice experiment.

650 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a very dark brown with a hint of red and a small tan head. Beautiful, big nose of vanilla with caramel, coffee and chocolate. Taste is vanilla, caramel, chocolate and coffee. Very sugary, but with an interesting bitterness too. Soft carbonation, slightly sticky texture. Very nice beer, although I’m not inclined to drink the full 650 ml again what with the sweetness and the ABV.

Bottled at Örebro Öl- och Whiskeyfestival. Dark brown, small head. Strong aroma of coffee, vanilla and, well... creme brulee... The flavour is exactly that as well - burnt sugar, traecle, coffee, vanilla and caramel. Not bad in itself, just extremely superficial and one dimensional. A good beer for people that don’t like beer. Pseudo-craft beer.

If you could turn a great Creme Brulee into a liquid, this would be the outcome. A bit much and over the top with flavor, but thats what I love. Not sure If I could drink a whole one myself. This was dark black and had a very strong vanilla and butterscotch. The taste had very little stout characteristics, almost pure butterscotch. The nose was intense.

Draft at the Dilly Deli. Wow, what an amazingly overwelming beer. Pours a jet black with no head to speak of. The huge aroma is vanilla and caramel, and the flavors are an explosion of vanilla, caramel, toffee and chocolate. Incredibly flavorful, incredibly sweet, this beer is best when handled in small amounts. I could never drink a full pint of this sweet beer.
