Dickinsonbeer (2550), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jul 21, 2008 Tap at Gingerman. Pours a nice deep dark black with a tannish head and some lace. Tons of vanilla, Diacetyl, butterscotch candies, - actually did smell like a nice heavily caramelized creme brulee, very sugary sweet also with some light roast and chocolate. A bit more chocolate and dark malts in the flavor, but the caramel and sugary sweetness comes out as well, including the buttery vanilla character that just gets way too intense and annoying. Beer becomes more annoying as it warms and everything is just over the top. Cool idea, and it works for the name they gave it for sure, but I just didn’t like it. Too over the top like the choklat that it becomes almost undrinkable for more than a few sips.
oakbluff (222), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Oct 5, 2008 Pours a chocolate cola colour with minimal head. Nose- blast of thick vanilla. Taste- creamy vanilla- super sweet, with some roasted malts. Some caustic nuttiness and finishes with stale vanilla. thick too sweet. booze is hidden, I will give it that. otherwise uggh KornDogg (7), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Oct 5, 2008 I was highly anticipating this release...absolutely amazing... my new fav of the Blackwater series... rich and flavorful, long sweet finish... Great as an after dinner treat... The sweetness might over power some, but def is something everyone should try... GuilTTy (458), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA Oct 4, 2008 Bomber. Opaque rich dark brown pour supporting a tall creamy dark tan head. Unmistakable aroma of butterscotch. Exactly the same for the flavor. Butterscotch overwhelms everything else. Some milk chocolate and roasted malt try to punch through towards the back of the tongue but they’re rarely successful. Creamy texture and long sweet finish. Illini08 (519), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Oct 4, 2008 Sampled at the Sep. Carolina Crew gathering. Butterscotch, vanilla, caramel aroma. Smells great. Doesn’t taste quite as good as ot smells though. Way, way too sweet. Cornfield (4329), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Oct 3, 2008 Bomber: This poured dark brown out of the bottle and turned black in the glass, capped by a creamy tan head that left spotty lacing. I keep wondering if I really like the aroma, a caramel and vanilla custard with a splash of old coffee. This has one of the creamiest mouthfeels that I’ve experienced in a beer in some time. The flavor adds some roasted malt and a hint of chocolate to all that was carried over from the nose. The finish is dry and has a burnt coffee/charred nut bitterness. Interesting Imp, hiding its sturdy alcohol content throughout the drinking.
