Commercial Description:
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 10.0% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

On one hand this is not a very impressive for an imperial and it does not really taste much like creme brulee as the name suggests. On other hand I found this to be a very enjoyable beer with tons of malty goodness.

Tasted from the bottle at some friends in RI . Fairly black Color with minal head. Flavors present were caramel, vanilla, chocolate, and coffee. Medium to full bodied with a smoothness on your tongue. Sweet pleasant finish . Not bad but prefer the Choklat.

31-DEC-2009, bottle from "Fish & Beer". Had it with "koldskål":-) Black wih almost no head. Nose is ...creme brulee...! Actually not as extreme an exprerience as I had hoped for. Can you say that the creme brulee is well integrated? At least the stout notes of coffee and tar goes well with the vanilla and charamel notes of the creme brulee. Not up with some of the other Southern Tier offerings, but a fine dessert beer.

Bottle. A unique beer. Aroma is like Creme Brulee, it seems to me. Vanilla and caramel in there. It’s almost black in a snifter with no head. The mouthfeel is slick, medium in body. Caramel dominates the flavour, all very sweet like soft Hallowe’en caramel cubes. It’s a bit lactic with a bunch of vanilla, some creamy coffee with milk, distant baking spices and plenty of both hops and sweet caramel sugar in the finish.

Bottle at Craig’s house. Strong vanilla flavour, doesn’t taste so much of beer.

Bottle. Dark brown body, with a small brown head. Aroma is sweet vanilla and caramel. Flavor is also vanilla, caramel and notes off coffee. Burned aftertaste. This is way too sweet for me.

Pours a deep dark black with an almond head. Aroma is super sweet with almond, vanilla and caramel. Taste is like a french vanilla coffee from Tim Horton’s. There is vanilla bean, caramel with coffee undertones. A very nice beer although very sweet.
