Some buttery oakiness. Better than I was expecting. Age did it some good. Hank1980 (764), Athens, Georgia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 31, 2009 Bottle. Poured cloudy orangish gold. Aroma is sweet, fruity, and oaky. Plenty of sweetness and some mild hop aroma as well. Taste is kind of messy mix of fruit, oak, spice, hops, and sweetness. Mouth is really sticky. Overall, an okay brew, though a little disappointing, considering some of the brews coming out of ST. JPDIPSO (4923), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 27, 2009 Light amber color with a diminished beige head. Sweet caramelized sugar aromas. Hints of honey, dried fruit and light oak. Sweet flavors oozing with honey, candied fruit, floral hops, and hints of brandied oak. Stomach is feeling rather warm. Fairly thick and lightly sticky in feel. Finish is lightly sweet with a bit of spice and citrus peel. I can’t quit get over how much my guts are burning after each swig. A light oak and gentle bitterness in the linger. I could use a little more bitterness to balance all the sweetness. I see this one only getting a bit more sticky and gooey in sweetness at time passes. Might even pass as a traditional barelywine with a little more time. Indra (2030), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 27, 2009 22oz. bottle. Strongly sweet aroma, full of honey and vanilla, with lighter notes of golden raisin, toffee and some mild oak. Initially clear medium orange color with a slight head and not much lacing to speak of. Flavor is drippingly sweet and fairly alcoholic, with brown sugary, caramel maltiness throughout, combined with a noticeable alcoholic fire and a background of peppery spiciness, oak, apricot, pineapple and butterscotch, very low degree of bitterness detected. Syrupy, sticky, warming palate with a low amount of effervescence and an extremely full body. I think I wanted to like this a lot more than I actually did. williamherbert (466), Syracuse, New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 24, 2009 (Out of a 22oz bottle into a tulip glass...)
Honey and copper color. Head disappears quickly. Hazy but glowing inside like a lava lamp. Some scant carbonation.
There is woody oak in the nose. Hint of Belgian spike. Some nicely toasted caramel malts. Woody and roasted.
Magnificent blend of the oak, accented with vanilla. Belgian spices, raisins, alcohol, caramel, molasses. Just sweet enough, with a dry base. Coconut and nuttyness. Pleasant, mild aftertaste.
The feel is creamy and fizzy. Leaves a nice film. Superior. It disappeared before I knew it was gone. MaltOMeal (653), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA
