Apr 12, 2009 Slight head that lasted. Needs to be sipped as one would a wine remembering that the bubbles punch up the alcohol effect. malty nose - ah, my wine tasting intrudes. Palate: Roasted malt with caramel and faint hops. Body is full and syrupy. Drink with a friend. Downing a couple of these will put you over the limit on the breathalyser and perhaps lead to memory loss and you do want to remember this brew.

Apr 11, 2009 50th rating of this brew. Bomber in a box from the man of gold whom hath twins. Thanks Larry. Porus mollasses brown with not much of a head. Nose is sweet and malty and oaky. Taste is sweet, oaky, creamy, and boozy, boozy, boozy. I like booze, but this could probably sit for 5 years and it might not even soften then. These cuvee series beers are weird for me. ST big beers in general are awesome and flatout interesting and these have just been booze bombs.

Apr 7, 2009 Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. The look is clear, amber in color, and has an ok beiged colored head. The smell is malts, caramel, wood, vanilla, and alcohol. The taste is sweet, oak, tannins, whiskey, and malts.

Apr 4, 2009 22oz. bottle served in a snifter. Poured a dark copper with a thin, off white head. Aroma was dark, burnt sugar to start. Also some caramel malt. Some hops came out as it warmed. Rich, full bodied mouthfeel. Lots of malt, but not overly sweet. There is a fair amount of hop bitterness that shows up in the finish. The oak was very subtle to me. I would have like a bit more wood flavor. The base beer was pretty nice, but I expected a little more for the money.

Apr 3, 2009 All the right parts are here, but it is not that exciting. Very full-bodied, alcohol is well hidden, at least until you get to the end of the bottle and stand up! The oakiness comes through as the beer warms up. Contrary to the bottle, this beer is not best served at 42F, it improves as it warms well past 42.

Apr 1, 2009 22 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazed dark copper with a moderate off-white head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left very little lace. There are elements in the aroma I like such as fresh pears, candied orange, and caramel. However, there is also a heavy sweetness reminiscent of overripe/rotting fruit that makes me wary. The flavor leans more on the overripe/rotting fruit sweetness than the aroma along with caramel and some oak. Strong alcohol flavor emerges towards the finish, particularly as the beer warms. I enjoy sweet beers, so that is never a problem for me. This one is just not very good.
