Commercial Description:
Heavy Weizen explores the inner depths of creativity and craftsmanship, taking a style of ale that is delicate and quaffable and shaping it into something exuberant and sturdy. The foundation of Heavy Weizen begins with prodigious quantities of North American malted barley and wheat. Next, the finest European hops are added to complement this ale's unique disposition by giving spicy aromas. Its spirit is forged during fermentation where our Bavarian weizen yeast consumes sugars and creates divine flavors reminiscent of bananas and cloves. Then, by aging this ale, we allow the divergent characteristics to blend together, becoming one. To capture Heavy Weizen's spirit, this wheat ale remains unfiltered to leave some of the yeast in the bottle. Serving this ale with a wedge of lemon is recommended, but optional. 18 plato, 38 IBUs, 2-row pale malt, malted white wheat, hallertau magnum, saaz.

Bottle. Pours cloudy blonde with a thick white head. Aroma of fruit, some citrus, and wheat. Flavor has excellent wheat tones, interesting for a 8% beer. Some clove, a little sweet and a little boozy. Worth a try though.

22 oz Bottle. Pours a nice cloudy orange. Smells of wheat and some banana flavoring. Flavor is excellent including some wheat. The first taste was a little strong of alcohol but it decreased with each sip. Great beer. Highly recommended.

Bottle. Blonde with an orange haze. Wheat, banana, tangerine and pineapple in the aroma. Wheaty, slightly alcoholic sweetish flavor, slightly grassy with clove, banana, tangerine and mango. Pretty straightforward alcoholic weizen.

Bottle @ HjHansen, Odense. Pours cloudy golden with a thick white head and lacings. Nose is heavy banana and wheat. Very sweet overall. Medium and smooth palate. A heavy wheat bomb for sure.

Cloudy golden with a lasting white head. Somewhat weak banana aroma, with a little straw and a hint of plastic-y phenols. Sweet fruity flavour, somewhat sticky with some warm alcohol.

On tap at the Bavarian Lodge. Overall I would describe this a full flavored American wheat ale that stays quite true to the German hefeweizen style. Banana bread, cloves, other mild fruity notes, and spice on the aroma. A big thick white head, a well clouded body, and gold orange color on the appearance. Also, well balanced in general, with full flavors that are not over the top at all for this being a strong wheat. The flavor profile is pretty standard, but this is definitely in a good way as everything is well put together. Sweet yeasty bread malts, spices, and a mild fruitiness on the flavor notes. Really this is just quite good. I was very impressed.
