Commercial Description:
Heavy Weizen explores the inner depths of creativity and craftsmanship, taking a style of ale that is delicate and quaffable and shaping it into something exuberant and sturdy. The foundation of Heavy Weizen begins with prodigious quantities of North American malted barley and wheat. Next, the finest European hops are added to complement this ale's unique disposition by giving spicy aromas. Its spirit is forged during fermentation where our Bavarian weizen yeast consumes sugars and creates divine flavors reminiscent of bananas and cloves. Then, by aging this ale, we allow the divergent characteristics to blend together, becoming one. To capture Heavy Weizen's spirit, this wheat ale remains unfiltered to leave some of the yeast in the bottle. Serving this ale with a wedge of lemon is recommended, but optional. 18 plato, 38 IBUs, 2-row pale malt, malted white wheat, hallertau magnum, saaz.

A hazy yellow-gold beer with nice presence in the glass. Aromas balance the clove and ginger spices with a soft fruit. The power of this beer is apparent when you taste the flavors and how well they are punched-up by the alcohol. Mealy bananas and nicely bitter hops. This is a well-crafted beer with lots of character. Not too dry on the finish.

Sample from bomber, courtesy GodofThunder. Cloudy light wheat color. Big spicy cloves, coriander and banana aroma. Smooth wheat and spice taste, very big. Southern Tier makes some big beers and this is a great example of what they do well.

22oz bottle. Pours a hazed, deep golden color with a faint orange tint. Tons of yeast, banana and citrus on the nose. Flavor was yeasty with some citrus and hop undertones. Finish was very clean and crisp, light/ medium body.

I picked upa bomber of this at the Binny-apostrophe-s Beverage Depot in Orland Park, IL. It poured a fairly clear golden body with a tall head that left rings of lace showing how big your last gulp was. It had an aroma of bananas - both fresh and old - and lemon grass with a suggestion of alcohol. Add a big chunk of clove to the flavor along with an increased alcohol presence. Alight lemony bitterness joins in at the finish. Nice.

Pours a slightly murky light orange with one finger of white head and good lacing. Nose- banana and clove. Taste- very spicy, especially with clove and coriander. Wheat malts give it a tannic quality. Medium bodied an carbonation is moderate. Finish is fairly bitter with some booze heat.

22 oz. bottle from Binny’s (Orland Park, IL) shared with a friend. Poured a nice heavily hazed cloudy yellow orange with a white bubbly head. Aromas are very wheaty, esters of banana and some spiciness, balanced by a slight bitterness. Taste is similar, with a little more citrus shining through the banana and cloves. Goes down very smooth, not too bitter on the finish and hard to notice the larger alcohol percentage. I really liked this brew. Cheers!

Courtesy of fishingnet. Pours hazy deep gold with wafer thin white head. The aroma is full of bold wheat notes backed by some honey like notes, a bit of grain malts and some faint cherry notes. The taste is much the same with bold wheat and then coriander like spices followed by some fruity esters. Midway I get mostly wheat. Nice. It pretty much ends as it started, darn tasty.
