Commercial Description:
Heavy Weizen explores the inner depths of creativity and craftsmanship, taking a style of ale that is delicate and quaffable and shaping it into something exuberant and sturdy. The foundation of Heavy Weizen begins with prodigious quantities of North American malted barley and wheat. Next, the finest European hops are added to complement this ale's unique disposition by giving spicy aromas. Its spirit is forged during fermentation where our Bavarian weizen yeast consumes sugars and creates divine flavors reminiscent of bananas and cloves. Then, by aging this ale, we allow the divergent characteristics to blend together, becoming one. To capture Heavy Weizen's spirit, this wheat ale remains unfiltered to leave some of the yeast in the bottle. Serving this ale with a wedge of lemon is recommended, but optional. 18 plato, 38 IBUs, 2-row pale malt, malted white wheat, hallertau magnum, saaz.

Pour is a cloudy orange with a large white head. Aroma is of decent bananas and a nice citrus and clove. Flavor is decent with some yeast and a nice bitterness with a little pepper and alcohol. I never thought i would ever see a 8% Geman Hefeweizen but this works.

22oz bottle served in a tall weizen glass. Not sure I have ever had an imperial hefeweizen before...The aroma is spicy cloves, floral hops, and subtle banana. Golden color, appropriate haze, and a smallish off white head. Lots of sharp wheat, lots of spice, some softer fruit flavors, most like banana. There is a pretty strong bitterness to the beer which helps offset the large body, but I am not so sure I like a real amped up hefeweizen. On the other hand, it is an interesting beer, one that seems to work, for the most part, when there is no preconceived notion about what this should be. I think this could easily be called a wheatwine feremented with a german weizen yeast. This one is growing on me a bit, maybe the 8% alcohol is influencing my rating?

Cloudy yellow with a small white head. Big spice and fruit aroma and a little stronger than the typical Hefe. Still very smooth and refreshing for summer.

Poured from a 22oz bomber and served in a weizen glass. This beer poured an evenly hazed golden orange hue with a thick head of tight, off-white foam. Excellent retention leaving behind a good amount of clingy lace. The aroma of the beer was made up of wheat, lemon zest, and ripened bananas. The flavor consisted of wheat, light citrus, bananas, lightly spicy cloves, a quick hop bite, and a hint of warming alcohol. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and creamy smooth with soft carbonation. Pretty mild mannered for an 8% brew. Nicely done!

On tap at the Empire Brew Fest in Syracuse. This is a great hefeweizen. The malt is blended really well and just comes through in an incredible taste. Definite spice involved in the taste on this one. A pretty damn solid beer all around. Would buy again

Aroma is clove and spicy with a lot of banana and creaminess. No hint of dms or off flavors. Great aroma. Taste is slightly peppery, clove and banana, and lemony in the finish with the hop bitterness. Finishes with a lingering creaminess. Very nice!

Bottle. Cloudy orange in color, not much head. Smell of hops and spices. Flavor is lemon, citrus, orange, hops, spices and some yeasty characteristics, all blended very well. Smooth and very tasty! I could drink this all day... Texture is perfect for a warm summer day. Light and refreshing, but still crisp. Overall I was very impressed by this beer. Another winner by southern tier!
