Commercial Description:
Heavy Weizen explores the inner depths of creativity and craftsmanship, taking a style of ale that is delicate and quaffable and shaping it into something exuberant and sturdy. The foundation of Heavy Weizen begins with prodigious quantities of North American malted barley and wheat. Next, the finest European hops are added to complement this ale's unique disposition by giving spicy aromas. Its spirit is forged during fermentation where our Bavarian weizen yeast consumes sugars and creates divine flavors reminiscent of bananas and cloves. Then, by aging this ale, we allow the divergent characteristics to blend together, becoming one. To capture Heavy Weizen's spirit, this wheat ale remains unfiltered to leave some of the yeast in the bottle. Serving this ale with a wedge of lemon is recommended, but optional. 18 plato, 38 IBUs, 2-row pale malt, malted white wheat, hallertau magnum, saaz.

Bottle. Cloudy orange in color, not much head. Smell of hops and spices. Flavor is lemon, citrus, orange, hops, spices and some yeasty characteristics, all blended very well. Smooth and very tasty! I could drink this all day... Texture is perfect for a warm summer day. Light and refreshing, but still crisp. Overall I was very impressed by this beer. Another winner by southern tier!

The Dan Journal #203. Tasted 7/20/08. 22oz bomber. Hazy with an orange golden hue. Trace white head. Banana doughy yeasty aromas. Orange and citrus notes. Medium to full bodied with a big yeasty chalky note. Bitter hops and a big alcohol bite. Orange and honey. Belgian type yeast? Mild tingling effervescence. Warming and sticky. Seems to be a mix of styles, but a fun ride.

Pours clear gold into a Weizen. Fluffy bright white micro head with medium retention recedes to coat surface leaving no lacing. Bubblegum and clove aromas. Soft with upfront bubblegum and a strong, lasting clove finish.

Mostly clear dark yellow with a pillowy head. Cascading bubbles are clearly visible in a steady stream rising from the bottom and frothy lacing sticks to the glass. The aroma is quite yeasty with a noticeable banana and bubblegum touch. Incredibly sweet flavor, expected citrus touch. Not refreshing or light or delicate in the slightest. The palate is sticky and cloying, abandoning everything that makes a hefe enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours a great hazy range with some sediment. The aroma is strong wheat and some funkiness. Taste is smooth wth a slight kick towards the end.

Hazed golden/orange color with a smaller off white head. Sweet wheat and bubblegum scents. An aroma that neither deters, nor draw one in. Hints of pine wood as well. Sweet wheat start and some additional sweet melon and other fruits join in as its lightly thick, oily body glides across the palate. Cloves and mild alcohol in the finish. Heavy and slightly sticky in feel as time goes by. Borders on a weizen malt liquor. but not in a bad way. Linger drifts in with nice wheat and a pine bark presence that is not as nice. A quaff I don’t mind trying, but would not want as a steady diet.
