Commercial Description:
Heavy Weizen explores the inner depths of creativity and craftsmanship, taking a style of ale that is delicate and quaffable and shaping it into something exuberant and sturdy. The foundation of Heavy Weizen begins with prodigious quantities of North American malted barley and wheat. Next, the finest European hops are added to complement this ale's unique disposition by giving spicy aromas. Its spirit is forged during fermentation where our Bavarian weizen yeast consumes sugars and creates divine flavors reminiscent of bananas and cloves. Then, by aging this ale, we allow the divergent characteristics to blend together, becoming one. To capture Heavy Weizen's spirit, this wheat ale remains unfiltered to leave some of the yeast in the bottle. Serving this ale with a wedge of lemon is recommended, but optional. 18 plato, 38 IBUs, 2-row pale malt, malted white wheat, hallertau magnum, saaz.

Woah, um, ok. The name of this weizen is very apropos. It is, in fact, heavy. It basically is like drinking a hefe on steroids: stronger, thicker, darker, and LOVES baseball.

22oz bottle. Aroma: Wheat and bread yeast, cloves and pepper, slight banana and orange. Appearance: Golden in color and hazy. Off-white head was medium sized and foamy with fair retention. Fair lacing. Flavor: Wheat and bread, and yeast. Clove, banana, and orange. Fairly sweet throughout. Some grassy, spicy, and earthy hop notes into the finish. Palate: Medium-full bodied. Medium carbonation. Light alcohol warmth in back of mouth. Overall: I liked this. Nice hefe flavors with an extra kick. If it was a little drier, it would be even better.

From a 22-oz bomber shared by badgerben, pours a hazy golden blonde brew with a thick white head that literally stays throughout the pour. Aroma of heavy banana esters, cloves, coriander, some vanilla and marzipan. Taste is full bodied, some carbonation with a heavy banana ester and clove presence, some bubblegum, wheat malt and yeast. Finish remains thick with a mild spiced banana aftertaste that lingers after the finish. This is definitely the thickest hefe I’ve tried.

(bottle) Poured into the weizen glass a hazy yellow that left a towering white head which settled and left decent lacing. Aroma indicated that this was a higher level hefe, with a large dose of banana, vanilla, wheat, and clove combining to create a very appealing smell. The taste was a little underwhelming though, with just a slight bit of sweet banana and vanilla in the beginning which gave way to some clove spice in the middle, and a lingering wheat/yeast finish on the end. Another great quality of this beer was the mouthfeel, and unlike many subpar hefes which have the watery mouthfeel, this one was rather thick and chewy. This was a good hefe, and it would’ve been great if the flavor had been a little stronger.

Hazy yellow/gold color with a large head. Wheaty aroma and some coriander. Strong banana flavor. Plenty of wheat, a little coriander and yeast. It seems like a good mix between a German and Belgian wheat beer. Very nice.
