Commercial Description:
Heavy Weizen explores the inner depths of creativity and craftsmanship, taking a style of ale that is delicate and quaffable and shaping it into something exuberant and sturdy. The foundation of Heavy Weizen begins with prodigious quantities of North American malted barley and wheat. Next, the finest European hops are added to complement this ale's unique disposition by giving spicy aromas. Its spirit is forged during fermentation where our Bavarian weizen yeast consumes sugars and creates divine flavors reminiscent of bananas and cloves. Then, by aging this ale, we allow the divergent characteristics to blend together, becoming one. To capture Heavy Weizen's spirit, this wheat ale remains unfiltered to leave some of the yeast in the bottle. Serving this ale with a wedge of lemon is recommended, but optional. 18 plato, 38 IBUs, 2-row pale malt, malted white wheat, hallertau magnum, saaz.

Cloudy golen pour, small white head that stays. Aroma is cloves, wheat, and weizen yeast. Flavor is banana, cloves, and a huge bubblegum flavor. Spicy finish but the sweetness really lingers, this could be due to the higher alcohol level. Full thick mouthfeel and very creamy texture. I think this is the best hefe I’ve had yet.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a clear golden color with a medium sized fizzy white head that quickly disappears. The aroma is citrus, light banana, yeast, and grass. The flavor is medium sweet malt, light citrus, spices, earthy/grassy sensations, pepper, and a medium bitter finish. Medium/full bodied.

Bottle from Shane and served in my weizen glass; Pours a hazy golden hue topped by a big fluffy head and very good lace. The aroma has notes of banana, clove, bubblegum, heavy sweet malts, wheat, and surprisingly herbal. The taste starts with much more sweetness than expected with layers of wheat and yeast throughout. The fruit component is there but weigh down by the malt flavor. There is a faint amount of noble bitterness upon the finish. The mouth feel is indeed much heavier than norm for the genre, chewy and soft with a medicinal hint. I hoped to really like this for I like weizens a bit more than most but I found this sweet and a somewhat cloying. Lacks the sharpness of the classics.

I mixed the last half of the glass with a Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse and that became what I had hoped this would have been!

I have mixed feelings about this. I like the hop profile--a lot more hops than in a typical weizenbock and I welcome the departure. But I just cannot fall in love with this big, chewy, sweet brew. There wasn’t enough subtle flavors for my taste. But it was different and fun.

22 oz bomber thanks to xnoxhatex. Alright another imperialized beer, lets give it a try. Pours a slightly hazed yellow with a tall white head. Nose of malt banana, cloves, other spices and a touch of alcohol. Creamy palate that has slight sour notes. The banana clove and spice flavors are put off by an over abundance of alcohol. The session-ability of the classic german hefeweizen leaves me with a tangy astringent sugary alcohol residue underneath the initial flavors that’s kinda ruining this beer for me. End this age of imperialism. Don’t you know imperialism is what brought the world to war. Let’s not let that happen again, leave the German Hefeweizens alone.

Thanks beastiefan2k for sending this treat. Hazy golden with medium white head. Aroma was spicy and light fruit with sweet malt background. Flavor was banana, spice, big malt profile. Great med to full body with a nice creaminess. I agree with Drewbeerme that this was an actually good idea and would like to see further attempts at this style.

sample thanks to xnoxhatex. pours golden with white head. nose has some hop aromas with bananas, cloves but everything seems balanced nicely. flavor has more weight to it then most hefe, good hop profile with balanced banana and clove flavors. although others tasting this didn’t think this style shouldn’t be imperialized, i actually think they pulled this off and didn’t overdue it at all. imo, this is one of the better southern tier brews.

Golden in colour, thin white coloured head, average retention, light lacing. The aroma is very lightly sweet, some bananas and spice, some orange zest. The flavour is quite creamy, lightly sweet, some lemon citrus, candies and bananas. Creamy mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes quite long with some light citrus. Not very imperial, no noticeable alcohol is a plus.
