| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 22, 2007 Golden in colour, thin white coloured head, average retention, light lacing. The aroma is very lightly sweet, some bananas and spice, some orange zest. The flavour is quite creamy, lightly sweet, some lemon citrus, candies and bananas. Creamy mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes quite long with some light citrus. Not very imperial, no noticeable alcohol is a plus.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 15, 2007 9/15/2007: I have been wanting to try this beer for quite some time and so I was very excited that it finally made it to Ohio... Southern Tier Heavy Weizen Imperial Unfiltered Wheat Ale pours a brilliant golden yellow color. It is foggy and has a lasting, creamy white to off-white head that leaves some foamy lacing on the glass. Nice, even, moderate carbonation makes this beer sparkle. Light banana and clove are layed atop a sweet, bready maltiness. The flavor is wheat, malt, and some banana at first, then it becomes fruity and more malty with some yeast/doughy breadiness and a slightly spicy (clove) and bitter hop finish. The slightly grassy and spicy (peppery) Saaz hops are even noticeable in the aftertaste. "Heavy Weizen" is a very apropos name for this beer since it has a medium-full body and feels a bit thick, heavy and syrupy in the mouth. It is very smooth though and even slightly warming (a nice twist for a hefewiezen!). Southern Tier makes some great brews that are all top notch and this is definitely one of them. Beers like this really showcase great brewing and remind me why I love beer so much! Kudos once again to Southern Tier!
650 ml. bottle (Alc. 8.0% by Vol. / 18° Plato / 4.5° L / 2-row pale malt, malted white wheat, kettle hops: hallertau magnum, aroma hops: czech saaz) from River’s Bend in Maineville, Ohio. Rating #99 for this beer...

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 15, 2007 This was a fun little beer that was enjoyed along side Ughsmash. Pours hazy yellow / orange with a small white head that has good retention. The aroma has heavy bananas, rich wheat that is very lush. It seems like a good hefe that is jacked up.... which is guess is the whole point anyway. The body starts thick, lush and rich and then finishes considerably thinner and sharp with minimal stinging carbonation. The flavor begins with thick wheat, bananas and creaminess. The finish is very sharp with a peppery spice blast, tart lemon and a bit of alcohol showing. Overall a very well done unique beer. JCB (1768), Durham, North Carolina, USA

Very pleasing aroma, with many overtones of the promised banana and clove, particularly the former. A lovely golden ale with modest head, it’s pleasantly yeasty at the outset, blending well with the spices and the sweet notes too. But it gets just a tad too boozy as it warms, docking it a notch or two in my book. Ughsmash (4032), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 6, 2007 Bomber shared with vyvvy, his bottle. Poured lightly hazy lighter golden with a lovely initial cap of white head.. receded to a dusting and a hefty ring. The aroma picked up rich and deep banana notes with just a prick of alcohol wafting through.. full-on and quite enjoyable! The flavor had a heavy, sweet, darker banana base with grainy notes throughout.. spritzy alcohol and more banana at the finish. Heavier-bodied as advertised, and it bit too grainy and strong at points. Overall very good, and I could see myself drinking a lot of this and ending up in bad places. bu11zeye (5496), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 3, 2007 Bomber. Appearance and aroma that of a normal hefe. The aroma is stronger and more appetizing than most in the style. As much as I love hefeweizens a lot of them are a bit too subtle and it’s nice to get a whole nose-full of cloves and yeast and all the other good stuff. Taste is strong, fruity, banana, clove, wheat, estery, phenolic, strong. Thicker and definitely stronger than any other hefeweizen taste. I like the philosophy behind this beer but the drinkability suffers. If someone could make a beer as flavorful as this with as much drinkability of a normal hefeweizen than I would be a happy man. I still appreciate the effort though.
