Commercial Description:
Heavy Weizen explores the inner depths of creativity and craftsmanship, taking a style of ale that is delicate and quaffable and shaping it into something exuberant and sturdy. The foundation of Heavy Weizen begins with prodigious quantities of North American malted barley and wheat. Next, the finest European hops are added to complement this ale's unique disposition by giving spicy aromas. Its spirit is forged during fermentation where our Bavarian weizen yeast consumes sugars and creates divine flavors reminiscent of bananas and cloves. Then, by aging this ale, we allow the divergent characteristics to blend together, becoming one. To capture Heavy Weizen's spirit, this wheat ale remains unfiltered to leave some of the yeast in the bottle. Serving this ale with a wedge of lemon is recommended, but optional. 18 plato, 38 IBUs, 2-row pale malt, malted white wheat, hallertau magnum, saaz.

Pours a cloudyorange-gold with a big big weizen wipped eggwhite-like head. Aroma is yeast and spices. Sweet/sour taste of bread, yeast, pale malts and honey. Alcohol somewhat evident after the swallow. Very delicious and interesting take on the style.

22 oz. bottle - glowing gold w/ slight haze and thin white head to the edges; aromas first of honey, stale grains, a little coriander and spice; something a little off though that I can’t place; flavors are weighted with honey and wheat; medium body is syrupy sweet; pretty interesting beer overall with unique with the heavy wheat and almost maple syrup kind of flavor; never boring in the southern tier universe

Cloudy light amber color with white head. Sharp estery clove and banana aromas with some tart wheat. Smooth medium body. Strong, sharp clove and banana flavors mirror the aroma, with a hint of tart wheat and bready maltiness. I’d like to see more maltiness in these "Imperial Hefe’s"

Slightly cloudy golden with a late forming white head. Big chunks of yeast in the second pour. Layered lacing. Aroma is fruity, funky, and yeasty. Lots of tasty and interesting stuff going on in the flavor. Fruit, malt, hops, spices, sugar, and bitterness. This is a beer that I didn’t expect to like but my tastebuds were won over. Down the middle for style and well crafted.

THOUGHTS: It was sort of like all the double wits I like, but it was a little cloying. Nice, but way too cloying. It was like drinking watered down honey. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a cloudy, milky dark yellow to light to medium orange with beautiful carbonation and a huge, chunky, ever-so-slightly, off-white head that slowly diminished keeping a fairly thick sheet that left excellent thick, chunks of lace. The aroma was candy syrup, sugar water, light to medium yeast, tons of banana, honey, clove, lemon, wheat and a little maple syrup. The initial flavor was very sweet and acidic; while the finish was extremely sweet, acidic and lightly bitter. There was honey, wheat, sugar water, banana, a little clove, lemony citrus and slight hops in the finish. The medium to medium/full body was a little syrupy then dry with fizzy carbonation and a light to moderately astringent, slightly chalky, lightly metallic and dry finish.

Bottle. Poured deep, brilliant yellow. Pristine white head. A hint of citrus, but not overwhelming. Very smooth finish and overall satisfying brew.

This one poured a cloudy darker yellow color with a white head. Aroma was spices of clover and ginger, honey, and yeasty. Flavor was very well balanced for what I expected. Sweet, but not syrupy, spicey some citrus, clove and banana. Hid the alcohol very well too.

Bottle. Small white head, fizzy carbonation, one ring of lacing, cloudy, and a pale yellow hue. Sweet, fruity, bananas, cloves, spicy, malt, hops, wheat, yeast, and citrus aroma. The flavor mimicked the aroma along with having a refreshing taste to it and a hint of the ABV coming through. Tingly mouthfeel and medium in body. Nicely balanced, easy to drink, crisp flavor, and worthy of a try.
