Commercial Description:
Heavy Weizen explores the inner depths of creativity and craftsmanship, taking a style of ale that is delicate and quaffable and shaping it into something exuberant and sturdy. The foundation of Heavy Weizen begins with prodigious quantities of North American malted barley and wheat. Next, the finest European hops are added to complement this ale's unique disposition by giving spicy aromas. Its spirit is forged during fermentation where our Bavarian weizen yeast consumes sugars and creates divine flavors reminiscent of bananas and cloves. Then, by aging this ale, we allow the divergent characteristics to blend together, becoming one. To capture Heavy Weizen's spirit, this wheat ale remains unfiltered to leave some of the yeast in the bottle. Serving this ale with a wedge of lemon is recommended, but optional. 18 plato, 38 IBUs, 2-row pale malt, malted white wheat, hallertau magnum, saaz.

hazy medium golden with enormous white head, that makes pouring a challenge. carbonation is high, probably too much so for the style. nose has some spicy hop aromas and fruity esters. mild bitterness then some spicy hops, the weizen yeast characteristics do not come through well, providing more clove and fruit and very little banana. the alcohol is present, but adds depth rather than distraction. a very flavorful brew, however, it ends up tasting more belgian golden strong ale than weizen. either way, very nice

Creamy wheat and pancake aromas. Rich bubbly head and golden yellow color, frothing over. Flavor is initially sharp and fruity, some orange peel, lemon, wheat, hay, and a light bitter finish. Creamy palate, slightly alcoholic. Low carbonation despite the bubbly head. Good.

Bottle. Lots of banana and clove in this one. It is truely heavier than your normal wheat beer. Quite good.

Balanced aroma of oranges, pineapple, and caramel with traces of baby food and clove. Cloudy golden, no head. Medium to full body. It tastes very much of caramel ringed with sour fruits, lemon and currant. Bitter grass and grapefruit finish. Decent complexity and balance. Distinct transitions from sweet (almost syrupy) to sour to bitter. Fairly well done with no off flavors, but something is amiss. I think maybe the initial sweetness overshadows everything else.

Pours hazy golden with a small fluffy white head. Beautifully strong aroma, with lots of cherry and banana present, not to mention candied lemon peel, clove, yeast, and just a hint of strawberry. Flavor is just as fruity as the aroma with lots of sweetened lemon peel, some banana, and a slight berry tartness. Plenty of yeast and spice as well as some pleasantly warming alcohol. Palate is full, spicy, zesty, warming, refreshing, and effervescent. Best wheat ale I’ve had to date.

"Heavy" is definitly the word to describe this beer. I took my first sip with the impression that it wasn’t that "big" a beer, but it’s anything but. It hit my mouth like a "bigger beer" normally does. If I were blind folded I would think that the ABV was probably around 12%. It sits heavily in your mouth and sends you tounge on a ride for its life.

22 oz bomber. Pours a cloudy yellow orange with a medium frosty white head. Aroma of cloves, bananas, yeast and peppery spice. Taste of cloves, bananas, peppery spice and yeast. Nice blend.
