Commercial Description:
Heavy Weizen explores the inner depths of creativity and craftsmanship, taking a style of ale that is delicate and quaffable and shaping it into something exuberant and sturdy. The foundation of Heavy Weizen begins with prodigious quantities of North American malted barley and wheat. Next, the finest European hops are added to complement this ale's unique disposition by giving spicy aromas. Its spirit is forged during fermentation where our Bavarian weizen yeast consumes sugars and creates divine flavors reminiscent of bananas and cloves. Then, by aging this ale, we allow the divergent characteristics to blend together, becoming one. To capture Heavy Weizen's spirit, this wheat ale remains unfiltered to leave some of the yeast in the bottle. Serving this ale with a wedge of lemon is recommended, but optional. 18 plato, 38 IBUs, 2-row pale malt, malted white wheat, hallertau magnum, saaz.

BeerHawk’s Beer Gods in the Boro, aka 1000 Bottles of Beer on the Wall, By God Beer God Gathering, BG1K Tasting. Sample from a bottle thanks to decaturstevo. Hay light golden body with a thin white head. The aroma is strong with cloves and bananas with lots of nice lightly toasted wheat. Kind of candied pineapple hop. The flavor is cloves and a nicely toasted wheat bread with banana slices and honey. The palate is crisp and refreshing. Dry with a great texture. Unfortunately, this beer became cloying after awhile.

22oz bottle. Pours hazy orange with a frothy white head. Lots of carbonation. Aroma is of hops, citrus, spice, malt, and wheat. Taste is of very spicy hops, citrus, wheat, malt, and slight caramel. Lots of grapefruit comes through in each sip. Lingering hop sweetness and a sharp peppery bite end eachs sip. Finish is surprisingly dry. Aside from being very boozy, it is insanley drinkable.

Surprisingly clear orange/yellow pour with a huge and bubbly white head. Aroma is peppery with some coriander. Flavor has a yeasty mustiness up front. Peppery and spicy with a bit of lemon and green apple. This one is boozy though, no doubt about it. Pretty darn tasty and interesting.

650 mL bottle. Darkish, opaque orange-yellow with a huge, frothy head. Usual weizen aroma, with lots of spice. Flavour is on the sweet side, with a nice amout of tangerine and spice, to go along with the banana.. Almost as much wit as weizen. A touch of warming alcohol at the end. Smooths as it warms. Body is very full, despite the heavy carbonation. Not exactly a light, refreshing summer wheat beer, but I like it.

Pours milky honey with a tall foamy off white head that has decent retention. Aroma is extremely overripe banana, banana flavoring, raw yeast, rising wheat bread dough, vanilla, wheat, floral hops, sweet flowering fruit, apple, a hint of clove, mild citrus, more floral hops. Really a nice aroma that stirs up many different notes depending on how vigorously it is swirled, way too much alcohol though. Flavor is apple, lots of floral hops, banana oil, lemon lime soda, alcohol, citrus and bitter hops, honey wheat bread, tart cherry. Finish is bitter, citrus and floral hops with a medium bitterness (high for a wheat) and banana bread fade lots of alcohol too. This beer really doesn’t hide it’s booze that well but does make it fairly tasty. Probably the best of the Southern Tier brews I have tried, that doesn’t take that much though. An interesting wheat nonetheless.
