Commercial Description:
Pour Hop Sun Summer Wheat Beer into a pint glass, give it a long whiff and you'll realize that this isn't your average wheat beer. Filtered to a golden clarity and dry-hopped to perfection, Hop Sun is a fantastic session ale in which flavors of wheat, barley and hops co-mingle to a refreshing and zesty conclusion. Hints of lemon and sweet malts waft to the fore as a touch of bitterness contributes to Hop Sun's bright finish. Enjoy Hop Sun all summer long as a perfect balance to your outdoor recreation. Summer never tasted so good.

12oz Bottle $8.99 6-Pack Route 6 Liquors Hop Sun pours a pours a brilliant straw yellow and surprisingly clear. Large carbonation bubbles explode to the surface where the two fingers worth of bubbly white head reside. It eventually falls to a skim coat but leaves streaky lacing down the glass. A lively summer brew that looks very refreshing. The thing I really enjoy about Hop Sun is the hop profile. Beautifully bright lemon and orange abound, both sweetened enough to add a candied aspect. I even get a squeeze or two of lime juice along the way. A slight touch of tangy wheat makes its way through quietly. Again, this smells very refreshing. The nose leads you right into the flavor you expected. Citric from front to back. Lemon is most abundant and shows itself throughout. Orange comes along mid-palate with a strong showing and a hint of lime comes through on the swallow. There’s just enough wheat twang to lay a solid foundation but the hops are certainly the showcase of this beer. An excellent summer sipper. The body is on the lighter side of medium with lively carbonation that awakens the tongue. Things move slow at first but when the lively carbonation kicks in it really gets a move on. Highly drinkable. One Hop Sun just isn’t enough. The low abv and refreshing qualities make this an ideal session brew for the summer. Another quality brew from Southern Tier. I’ve picked up a few of these this summer already and really enjoy it. The only downfall is that it disappears far too quickly. Hop Sun is hoppy wheat in the vein of Gumballhead. Although I prefer Gumballhead a little more this is another great beer of a hard to find sub-style. 6/5/08

An intersting beer. Golden pour with a mild hop and wheat aroma. It is a refreshing hot weather beer. Has some citrus notes and is light on the stomach. It was good.

Pours a highly carbonated clear straw color with a medium off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet, grapefruit, spicy and light floral. Flavor is grapefruit, grassy, spicy and light citrus. Finishes a bit more bitter and spicy. Light to medium body, thin texture.

Pours a lightly hazy gold orange with a medium, foamy white head. Smells more on the fruity side. Got some pineapple, orange citrus, with minimal wheat and hop characters. The flavors are big on the carbonation, lots of fizzy citrus with more of the hops coming out balancing the citrus a bit. Perhaps a bit overcarbonated and lacking any real complexity. Just a drinkable, yet unimpressive conglomerate of different ingredients mixed together with no real plan.

A really interesting mix - a bit like a hop soda with a smooth wheaty finish. I like this for next summer as we are probably out by now for this year. I could do a lot of yard work if i knew I had some of these cold in the fridge.

Pours a very lightly hazy golden-straw color with a quick, foamy, off-white head. Virtually no lacing noted. The aroma shows notes of fresh wheat and dry cereal grains, lightly sweet pale malts, and citrus hop notes of lemon and orange. Flavors are basically the same. Light and crisp grainy notes meet subtle, zesty citrus hops. The palate is light in body and a touch over carbonated, which is perhaps what they were going for in this sessionable summertime brew. Overall, pretty decent for a hot summer’s day, but nothing more.

12 oz bottle given to me by csbosox. Pour is slightly hazed golden with a smallish white head. Almost no carbonation visible. Aroma of fresh wheat, hay, and sweet floral hops. Nice fresh and clean nose. Taste is the nose, though primarily diluted wheat, with soft sweet floral hop bitterness in the back. Some faint lemon citrus. Nice, though I was expecting more from the nose. Palate is on thin side, though didn’t detract too much. Nice clean quaffable summer beer. Thanks for giving me this one Chris!
