It took me a few minutes to pinpoint what I thought this beer smelled like but the aroma is sorta like apple juice. Taste is similiar to the aroma ...apple juice... kinda strange taste for a beer but im liking it. Finish is on the bitter side. alcohol is very well hidden. Southern Tier’s Imperial line has another good brew. WickerBrew (312), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 11, 2008 best non-stout I have had from Southern Tier. Its a bit thin, but that is starting to seem like their calling card. Hoppy, but not to the point of sweetness which I love. I would never guess that this is coming in at 10%, i have had beers half that which feel similar. There are lots of pales out there to try, but at this price i could see myself drinking this again. jeffc666 (1891), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 10, 2008 Lightly hazed golden-hues amber body. Really nice pillowy white head with excellent glass lace. The aroma is surprisingly mellow with bready malt leading the way. The flavor is all about hops. Citrus. Surprisingly mild on the palate. The alcohol stays well hidden until late in the swirl-o-matic cycle through the mouth. jeffwilliams11 (310), hooterville, Michigan, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Feb 4, 2008 (22oz bottle) Sampled at Ciderwinder 5 in Victoria. Love that amarillo nose. Great looking - slightly hazy, mild carbonated and golden body. Nose is wonderfully floral and tart. Strong amarillo tongue. A new favourite and re-confirms amarillo as my favourite hop. So good! | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 4, 2008 Bomber from brentfeesh - thanks Brent! Pours into my Chimay glass clear gold with a creamy, off white head. Decent carbonation. Pine and perfumey sweet orange nose, a few peachy notes. Medium bodied, the carbonation makes it feel lighter, but a touch of stickiness is apparent. Nice orange rind bitter over bready malt, light caramel and mild earthy flavors. The bitter, lightly dry citrus finish hangs in the mouth for a long, long time. Very nice! frankenkitty (1902), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 4, 2008 Looks beautiful in an oversized goblet... deep-hazed honey/vermillion body, low particulate (heavier late) in suspension, under a full & creamy, off-white head. Sweet tangerine and caramel fill the nostrils, suggesting that any edginess that was initially present in this beer has mellowed in the months I’ve cellared it. Only a mild whiff of grapefruit hints to the contrary. Alcohol becomes forceful as she warms and is a strong component to the flavor as well. Citrus is well-represented in the mouth, but more as a candied fruitiness than as the rindy bitterness I’d anticipated. Plenty of toffee and caramel plays well with oranges and mild peppers. Hoppe exhibits a honey-like thickness on the palate with a dry, cooling, alcohol lift. Quite enjoyable. I am pleased I had let this sit (not that it was my intent), as it has almost reached a barleywine turning-point where the heat of the hops have succumbed to age, allowing the yeast and malt profile to shine.
