jeffc666 (1820), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Feb 10, 2008 Lightly hazed golden-hues amber body. Really nice pillowy white head with excellent glass lace. The aroma is surprisingly mellow with bready malt leading the way. The flavor is all about hops. Citrus. Surprisingly mild on the palate. The alcohol stays well hidden until late in the swirl-o-matic cycle through the mouth.
BlackForestCO (521), Fort Collins and Black Forest, Colorado, USA Aug 31, 2008 Bottle thanks to PilsnerPeter, thanks once again. Poured a clear golden color with a moderate white head that faded to a ring. Moderate hop resin, pine, some leafiness, and some faint citrus, including orange and tangerine. Soft, lightly sweet entry with a hint of caramel leads into a lightly resinous, spicy floral hop hit with some light pine and sweet sugar. Full on the palate with a moderate hop bite. Pretty good brew, but not quite as good as it’s brother Unearthly. SuzyGreenberg (934), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 27, 2008 22 oz. bottle - thanks to biegaman for the trade; pours light orange and crystal clear; white head fades quickly; sweet and bitter aromas; some candy, earthy tones and stale malts; drinks creamy and bitter; a little malty, sweet and fruity, but mostly bitter; overall this comes off a little abrasive to me BrotherGrendel (140), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Aug 23, 2008 Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.
Appearance is an opaque bright orange hue, pillowy white layer of head that sustains, fair lacing on the glass.
Smell is very fragrant floral and citrus hops, pine resin lingers as does crisp malts, oranges and cotton candy.
Taste is initially full of sweet floral hops intermingled with a good dose of pine resin and orangey citrus, biscuity and bread malts balance out the profile midway, sweet candy and citrus round out the tail end which finishes sweet and resiny.
Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, creamy smooth texture, moderate carbonation.
Drinkability is high, I can’t believe this beer is at 10%abv the alcohol presence is so subtle, the Imperial line from ST continues to impress, I can’t way to make my way through all these beers, this Lakewood NY brewery has slowly acquired a fan for life (now if only they could get distribution to CA!). gameface23 (91), Haverhill, Massachusetts, USA Aug 23, 2008 Pale copper color with a head that starts out enticing, but gives way at some point while drinking. Grapefruit/pine aroma. Well balanced flavor, but I was hoping for more out of an Imperial. dm9831 (572), Monee, Illinois, USA Aug 19, 2008 hazy golden color, thin head, with some lacing. aroma is wonderfully hoppy grapefruit and hints of pine. flavor is all bittery citrusy hoppiness. beauty pine finish which lingers. not a hop bomb, but a more delicate hop hop experience, enjoyable none-the-less. a respectable 8% abv remains fairly well hidden.
