Commercial Description:
Southern Tier Iniquity is an Imperial Black IPA, which is also called an Imperial India Brown Ale. This is a style that seems to be increasing in popularity. The hexagram talisman has been used around the world for centuries to invoke magic and good luck. Wishes of good fortune often collaborate with the brewer’s creative to yield dramatic results. We carefully chose the name for this Imperial IBA, Iniquity - a word opposing goodness. Why? This beer is contrary to what one might expect from an IPA; this is an ale as black as night. It is the antithesis of Unearthly. Some may consider it an immoral act to blacken an ale. We suggest they don’t rely on conventional standards. Allow the darkness to consume you. Iniquity weighs in at 9% alcohol by volume. It uses four different hops and 2-row pale malt along with debittered black malt in it’s brewing.

Bottled. Aroma has some roasted malts, loads of hops. Black coloured beer with a beige head. The taste is bitter, sweetish. It has roasted malts, some coffee with liquorice/sugar and hops. Not a too heavy body. Bit weird beer, but okay.

Bomber. Pours a nice reddish black with a thin tan head. Hops and simple sugar in the nose. Very sweet, kind of took me by suprise considering the hoope aroma. Also has raisins, brown sugar, and maybe a touch of anise. Syrup textute, leaves a film behind. Decent, worth a try.

Pours a nice thin black with thick off-white head, decent lacing. Aroma of a nice malt mixture, lightly roasted malt, and a bit of dark chocolate. Flavor matches well and comes together nicely. I was expecting to not like this, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Bottled. Dark color, short brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, heavy hop. Quite bitter taste, earthy roasted malt, some licorice. I dont know about this black IPA. It’s like an extremely hopped schwarzbier.

Bottled, courtesy of caesar. Very dark brown coloured small but lasting brown head. Roasted malts, hops, some pine in aroma. Bitter flavour, some raisins. Lasting bitter finish. Imperial black ale? Whatever the style is, it’s quite ok.

Bottle at home. Dark brown coloured with a medium sized beige head. Roasted and hoppy aroma of dark chocolate, liquorice and pine needles with notes of alcohol. Roasted and hppy flavour of dark chocolate, liquorice and grape fruits. Dry hoppy and roasted finish.

Best black ale I have ever tasted. It approached a imperial stout in complexity. Will re rate on next bottle tomorrow.

The bottle calls it Imperial Iniquity. Medium high but long lasting light brown creamy head. Very dark red brown, almost black, body. Sweet berries coffiee roasted malt caramel aroma. Choccolate coffe caramel liquorice roasted malt flavor with a fair amount of hops bitterness. High carbonation. Long aftertaste.
