pours black, with beige/mocha head.
Interesting approach to these new black IPA beers.
aroma very hoppy, hints of oak, malts.
Taste, light roasted malts, chocolate, yeasty, some floral hops and spices.
Hops give this an nice twist, some delicate bitterness but nothing that overpowers the whole palate.
As it warmed up, the beer gained a little bit of the wood/oak. heemer77 (4312), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 5, 2009 Bomber. The body was dark brown, nearly dark copper with a khaki colored head. The aroma was sweet caramel with some almonds and bubblegum. The taste was largely cola with some milk chocolate. Thick and syrupy. Obviously a big dog, this was a little bit of a let down as I expect more from Southern Tier. However, it was about what I expect from the black India Ale style brews. Hoppy with an unbalanced porter character that just does not mix well. Barrios (858), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 3, 2009 Dark IPA is a strange new trend but this is probably a favorite of the genre. This poured a dark brown to black color. The aroma contains some chocolate, caramel. citrus, and dark fruit. The flavor contains some oranges, raisins, caramel, chocolate. The finish is malty, then sour, then bitter. All over the board. Overall a pretty good and interesting beer.
