Wonderful hoppy nose with plenty of pulpy citrus and a touch of fresh pine. Not overly roasty, but the dark malts a certainly a key flavor component. The yummy hops come back at mid palate and grow into a lasting roasted and hop bitter finish. Medium body yet quite mouth filling. Suprisingly easy to drink until the 9 % hits you. This is a really nice beer. I’d like to put this up against Stone Sublimly Self Rightous. csbosox (1085), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 28, 2009 Nose of pine, grapefruit and orange. Nearly black with dark red tinting at the edges and a khaki head. Strong bitterness is apparent right away and the flavor is a nice mix of american hops which are resiny and piney with some lighter floral and citrus notes. The finish is long and bitter. The dark color is there to throw you off and one never gets a sense of it in the flavor or aroma. Big bodied initially but the beer finishes dry and bitter. Deceptively strong. This is the type of beer than ST excels in making. Tweety (344), Vancouver, Washington, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 24, 2009 Courtesy dragonstout. Pours a deep black color with a small, tan head that settles quickly to a thin film. The aroma shows citrus hops, bitter chocolate, roasted malts, and a sweet caramel malt base. The flavor follows with a good amount of bitterness from the hops and dark chocolate. Caramel and dark fruits add sweetness to balance out the roast and hop bitterness. Medium bodied with ample carbonation and a lengthy bitter finish. This is certainly different, and interesting to try, but just not my thing. ditmier (1117), Boise, Idaho, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 22, 2009 Pours a dark ruby color with thin off white head. Aroma is roasted malts, some light cocoa powder, fruit notes, earthy and resinous hops. Taste has some citrus, roasted malt, some light bitter cocoa notes. Easily approachable and drinkable and alcohol was well hidden. Still, not a big fan of this. It’s good, don’t get me wrong, but for $8 there are plenty of other hoppy options for me. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 21, 2009 Bottle. Really black pour with a beige head. Aroma of citrus resinous hops, lightly roasted malts, mild fruit. Taste roasted with plenty of big hoppy flavors to accompany. Citrus and pine notes are both there. A very interesting and complex brew. I really liked. Finish is little bitter and little warming. Body is not huge, but is pretty full and balanced. A nice brew. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 21, 2009 THanks for sharing, bro! Pours a rich caramel color with a thin off-white head. Aroma is caramel malts, molasses, candied sugar, resinous hops, and an almost chocolate type aroma. Taste is almost like an Altbier. Caramel malts, resinous hops, and an almost Barley-Wine style.
