May 1, 2009 22oz. Bomber. Another winner from Southern Tier. Close your eyes and its another impressive Imperial IPA. I don’t notice any of the stout characteristics mentioned by others except for the color. Inky blackish color with a thin head and subtle lacing. Strong whiff of grapefruit with a bit of lemon zest and pine. Flavor is dominated by hops with a spicy citrus character. The non IPA characteristics of this beer are very subtle and if not for the color I’m not sure you would notice them at all. Perhaps a hint of roasted barley and a touch of cocoa flavor. Very smooth and velvety texture with medium carbonation and no hint of the high alcohol content. Finishes with a flourishing dry bitterness. A highly drinkable brew that I could see turning into a session beer.

Apr 29, 2009 Pours deep black wirh ruby edges and 1-finger off-khaki head. Nose is malt, heavy piney wet hops, pineapple. Tastes very hoppy, very dark malty, with a bit of dark choc flavor mixed with the piney hops, bitter dryness, and pineaplle flavors. Medium, fizzy palate. This one seems a bit off kilter, and gets very discombobulated as it warms up. Still, big bonus style and originailty points here.

Apr 28, 2009 Opaque black body beneath a light brown head. Aroma of roasted barley with hints of cocoa and piney hops. Black malt flavors with a hint of milk chocolate and followed by pine and citrus hops. Interesting beer, initial flavors are reminiscent of a sweet stout and the finish of an IPA.

Apr 28, 2009 Bomber. Dark brown with a big, loose, tan head. Nose is grapefruit and some pine, some roasty aromas. Excellent sheet lace. Nice bittersweet citrus flavors, a bit candylike. A bit of roast malt pops up late, Body is smooth and just a bit creamy. Lingering pink grapefruit flavors in the finish, a bit or resinous pine. Can’t detect the alcohol. Interesting brew, and a nice drinker.

Apr 28, 2009 Small to average off white head. Nice dark brown with bits of red. Aroma was malty at first then all I could get was hops mostly citrusy but after a while I got more of the roasty aroma. This beer is very smooth and balanced which leaves it somewhat average. Sweet, smoooooth and creamy with chocolate, a bit of raisin?, hops balanced well with malt and a tiny bit of alcohol bite. Overall a good beer to drink but not incredible.

Apr 28, 2009 Tasting shared with the Monarch of Malt Drbayern, The king of Cool Celticbrew, Uncles Steve and Tom, our New Beer pimp Brian and Dancin’ Paul. Poured dark with a light, off color head that was creamy. The aroma was predominantly malt. It was Hoppy, but the malt flavors came through nicely, making it sort of like an over hopped stout. The finish was great, and the mouthfeel was wonderful!

Apr 25, 2009 Roasted malty aromas and a dark black body with grayish brown head. Flavor is similar to a stout or porter. Good roasted malty flavors. Creamy palate with a good level of richness and duration. Balanced.
