Commercial Description:
Southern Tier Iniquity is an Imperial Black IPA, which is also called an Imperial India Brown Ale. This is a style that seems to be increasing in popularity. The hexagram talisman has been used around the world for centuries to invoke magic and good luck. Wishes of good fortune often collaborate with the brewer’s creative to yield dramatic results. We carefully chose the name for this Imperial IBA, Iniquity - a word opposing goodness. Why? This beer is contrary to what one might expect from an IPA; this is an ale as black as night. It is the antithesis of Unearthly. Some may consider it an immoral act to blacken an ale. We suggest they don’t rely on conventional standards. Allow the darkness to consume you. Iniquity weighs in at 9% alcohol by volume. It uses four different hops and 2-row pale malt along with debittered black malt in it’s brewing.

Bottle. Popped the top and I new I was in for a treat when hop smell filled the room. Truly awesome black iipa. The first black iipa I’ve sampled. Like a porter blended with dreadnaught. Awesome!

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a tan head over a very dark brown body. Aroma of light hops, chocolate and brown sugar. Taste is hops, sugary, ashy and brown sugar. Light bubbles and a syrupy mouthfeel. Hops were a bit lacking for my taste.

Pours a very dark brown with a small bubbly off-white head. Very green aroma, dirty earthy hops, piney, floral, touch of banana and molasses. Flavor is quite odd, smokey banana, burnt sugars, green dirty floral hops, ashy, some chocolate. Medium bodied with nice medium carbonation. A little strange.

Bottle thanks to 17thfloor. Opaque black with medium, creamy beige head. Sweet fruit aroma, slight chocolate, roast, light hops, mostly fruity yeastiness. Sweet, roast, light hops, young, alc, yeast. Medium body with light carbonation. Sweet, seems underattenuated and has a young hop flavor. Interesting though.

What a crazy beer. Looks like a stout, smells like an IPA, tastes like an american barley wine. Black appearance with a small off white head that leaves lace. Smell is all hops, flowery and piney. Flavor is mostly a caramel sweet malt, with a little bit of hop biterness and some alcohol heat. Chewy mouthfeel with a bitter finish. I give it extra points for originality.
