Commercial Description:
Southern Tier Iniquity is an Imperial Black IPA, which is also called an Imperial India Brown Ale. This is a style that seems to be increasing in popularity. The hexagram talisman has been used around the world for centuries to invoke magic and good luck. Wishes of good fortune often collaborate with the brewer’s creative to yield dramatic results. We carefully chose the name for this Imperial IBA, Iniquity - a word opposing goodness. Why? This beer is contrary to what one might expect from an IPA; this is an ale as black as night. It is the antithesis of Unearthly. Some may consider it an immoral act to blacken an ale. We suggest they don’t rely on conventional standards. Allow the darkness to consume you. Iniquity weighs in at 9% alcohol by volume. It uses four different hops and 2-row pale malt along with debittered black malt in it’s brewing.

Bomber. Deep brown, clear body with ruby notes. Fizzy, tan head, mostly diminshing. Balanced aroma of roasted malts and citrusy hops. Notes of dark malts, sweet chocolate, pine, grapefruit, pineapple, licorice, molasses. The flavor is moderately sweet and moderately bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately to heavily bitter and lightly to moderately acidic. The taste starts with roasted malts but those are overrun by sweet mango and pineapple and that’s overpowered by grapefruit. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Great balance between sweet and bitter. Like a double IPA with roasted malts. Excellent.

very very intrigued. love southern tiers imperial oatmeal south so im very interested in how this one came out. pours rootbeer with just a tiny tiny head that sticks to the sides of the rim, nose is light compared to my last beer. light chocolate, spices, quite earthy. taste is very refreshing, up front it starts out like a lager, light taste but then it moves to the back of the tongue and it gathers some syrupy flavours. maple syrup, a bit sweet but well balanced. dry dry finish. i like this one, not as much as i thought i would, but it is very, very good.

Aroma of roastiness, sweetness and spice. Great Black IPA! Not overly roasty, not burnt, but just right. Notes of toffee, caramel, tobacco, and coffee. Finishes very clean.

Bottled. Deep brown coloured with a reddish gleam. Light brown fluffy head. Aroma is herbal, has aramel, light liqourice, roast and some sweetness. Flavour is caramelly, has a touch of coffee, is herbal and sweet with a light fruittouch. Smooth. Medium to full bodied. Dry. Has a sweetish light chocolaty bitterness in the end. Quite nice and easy to drink.

Its clear dark brown with a medium baige head. Aroma holds lots of piney hop notes along with some roasted malt. Flavor has both hop and roasted bitterness, with the hop bitterness dominating, not alot of sweetness with makes the body quite light. Nice ipa with a twist that mainly is the look.

Bottle - Num num num. Pours deep and black with a bubbly head. Smells chocolatey and sour, along with some notes of Werther’s candy. Taste is smooth and chocolatey with toffee and a nice finish that blends hops, a bit of coffee, and just a hint of head. The 9% is hidden pretty well though, and warms rather than bites. It’s smooth and pretty full bodied. Right up there with my favorite ST brews.

Trade bottle from Brad. Poured a dark black color with small head. Aroma of citrus tangerine, sweet cream, and roasted malts. Taste of fruity hops, roastyness, and sweet cream. Medium pallet. Overall very good. Kinda reminded me of Stone 11th anniversary.

Courtesy of bhensonb. This black beer poured with a rich tan head and a fruity chocolate aroma. The flavor is very chocolate with a little plum and a hoppy bitter finish. Delicious.
