Commercial Description:
Southern Tier Iniquity is an Imperial Black IPA, which is also called an Imperial India Brown Ale. This is a style that seems to be increasing in popularity. The hexagram talisman has been used around the world for centuries to invoke magic and good luck. Wishes of good fortune often collaborate with the brewer’s creative to yield dramatic results. We carefully chose the name for this Imperial IBA, Iniquity - a word opposing goodness. Why? This beer is contrary to what one might expect from an IPA; this is an ale as black as night. It is the antithesis of Unearthly. Some may consider it an immoral act to blacken an ale. We suggest they don’t rely on conventional standards. Allow the darkness to consume you. Iniquity weighs in at 9% alcohol by volume. It uses four different hops and 2-row pale malt along with debittered black malt in it’s brewing.

Bomber from Archers Liquors. Pours very black with a two-finger beige head. Aroma is quite hoppy. Near full bodied. Flavor is many hops and some dark, toasted malt. This could be a heavily hopped stout, almost. Friggin delicious.

Bottle provided by JoeTheYounger...Pours reddish black with a thin off white head... Aroma is citrus hops and some sweet cream.. Flavor was sweet with some citrus, almost like un-earthly. Also had a nice but not overpowering bitterness... Medium carbonation with a thin body.

Bittersweet dark chocolate, hickory and ashy notes join a light flowery citrus hop character and some fruity notes in the aroma. Deep brown body is topped by a generous tan head that recedes to a thick and lasting cover and coats the sides of the glass with very nice lacing. Quite sweet in flavour and somewhat lactic especially in the aftertaste. Bitterness is pronounced without being aggressive floral hops linger in the aftertaste. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle purchased at Brewery Creek in Oct-09.

Bottle. Pitch black body with a creamy tan head. The aroma is flowery hoppy with notes of citrus and pine. Light coffee notes as well. The flavour is piney, citrussy and light roasty with notes of bitter coffee and black bitter malt. Very nice!

Bomber. Pours a deep, dark crimson to chestnut brown hue with a small head of khaki colored foam. Soapy lacing mostly rejoins the body, though some spotty lacing does remain behind on the glass. The aroma shows a base of black patent malt, dark cocoa, and burnt caramel sugars, with a hint of coffee and a hefty dose of sticky, resinous pine hops. Flavors follow suit, again based in semi-dry, slightly lactic dark cocoa, with burnt, slightly acrid caramel and heaps of citrusy, piny hop bitterness. Though it’s highly hopped, there’s a good amount of balance going on here. Medium-plus in stature, the palate sports a fat-bubbled prickliness and a slightly dry finish. It’s a very solid black IPA, though there are several that eclipse it.

22 fl oz bomber from Supreme Liquors, Cambridge MA. Definitely more of a dark IPA in style than anything else. Very dark red/brown colour - almost black really. Tan head. Bags of juicy hops throughout. Good chocolate malt too. All in excellent balance. Rich but not cloying, drinking very easily for 9%. Powerful yet measured. Lots of other nuances but, to be honest, I was enjoying this beer too much to get too much into the analytics. Sometimes a beer just hits the right spot. This one certainly did so for me.

22oz - A Scotch Ale with a roasted marshmallow finish. Black/brown with a shortlived head, woody nose and creamy palate.
