Commercial Description:
Southern Tier Iniquity is an Imperial Black IPA, which is also called an Imperial India Brown Ale. This is a style that seems to be increasing in popularity. The hexagram talisman has been used around the world for centuries to invoke magic and good luck. Wishes of good fortune often collaborate with the brewer’s creative to yield dramatic results. We carefully chose the name for this Imperial IBA, Iniquity - a word opposing goodness. Why? This beer is contrary to what one might expect from an IPA; this is an ale as black as night. It is the antithesis of Unearthly. Some may consider it an immoral act to blacken an ale. We suggest they don’t rely on conventional standards. Allow the darkness to consume you. Iniquity weighs in at 9% alcohol by volume. It uses four different hops and 2-row pale malt along with debittered black malt in it’s brewing.

Bottle from ølbutikken. clear brown, smooth large light brown head. nutty sweet malty base, lots of floral hoppy aroma too. flavor is licorice, floral and slighlty piny hops, caramel, faint malts. alc. well hidden. faint syrupy honey note too. Overall impression is that this brew falls somewhere inbetween several ordinary syles, but doesn’t manage to really be it’s own. it feels acward. Taste is okay but not fantastic. Craftmanship nevertheless as usual from ST.

Had this on tap after in the same glass I had a bottle of Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree IPA immediately before it, so I can’t say this is accurate. Pours a pitch black color with a nice beige head that leave a sticky lacing. Aroma of citrus and pine, with dark malts beneath it. Taste is surprisingly bitter, with molasses and roasted malt leading the way, and finishing with a lot of hop bitterness. Full mouthfeel that hides the ABV.

Inequity pours as dark with a thick head. This Imperial Dark IPA is filled with delicious hops and malts. Its heavy on the tongue and slow to drink. But it is a great beer none the less. Drink this one with a nice steak.

Bottle, bought @ Ølbutikken, Cph.
Pours clear, deep chestnut with a small, creamy, off-white head. Limited duration. Heavy hoppy aroma, caramel, light roasted, peach, grapefruit, piney and light oaky. Medium carbonation, oily and lightly dry mouthfeel. Flavour is actually surprisingly sweet. Lots of milky chocolate, hazelnuts, some light caramel, mildly roasted malts. Resiny, mildly bitter hops in the finish. Light warming as well. Good, but there is too much sweetness in the flavour for me.

A beer that dramatically improves as it warms, "Iniquity" has flavors that don’t appear early in a tasting but come out later, almost as a cumulative effect. Nice hoppiness and a little alcohol warming effect is later complemented by subtle chocolate notes as it warms.

It’s black with a red hue and a huge, creamy head. The aroma has notes of fruity, citrussy hops and roasted malt and licorice. The flavor is slightly sweet with notes of roasted malt, licorice, light chocolate and fruit, mostly citrus. It’s really well made, interesting and harmonic.

On tap at Beer Temple, Amsterdam. Nice dark brown body with tan head. Nose of hops and malts, sweet and toffee. Nice sweet taste as well, with coffee and caramel in effect. More hoppy towards the finish. Well done.

On tap at Beer Temple. Deep dark brown to black colour, dense light beige head. Aroma of hops, pine, sweet malts, burnt sugar, fruits. Flavour is sweet, malty, light roasted malts, a bit of coffee, caramel, some dark fruits, good hoppy citrus bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied.

Bottle. Moderate to heavy malt aromas of toasted and molasses, heavy pine tar for the hops, light earth for the yeast, with background notes of licorice, raisin, vanilla and alcohol. Head is small, frothy, off-white with spotty lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is dark cola brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finish is lightly sweet and slight acidic and bitter. Palate is medium, oily with a soft to lively carbonation, and a lightly dry finish. Dark, rich and bold this is an excellent American Strong Ale.
