Commercial Description:
Southern Tier Iniquity is an Imperial Black IPA, which is also called an Imperial India Brown Ale. This is a style that seems to be increasing in popularity. The hexagram talisman has been used around the world for centuries to invoke magic and good luck. Wishes of good fortune often collaborate with the brewer’s creative to yield dramatic results. We carefully chose the name for this Imperial IBA, Iniquity - a word opposing goodness. Why? This beer is contrary to what one might expect from an IPA; this is an ale as black as night. It is the antithesis of Unearthly. Some may consider it an immoral act to blacken an ale. We suggest they don’t rely on conventional standards. Allow the darkness to consume you. Iniquity weighs in at 9% alcohol by volume. It uses four different hops and 2-row pale malt along with debittered black malt in it’s brewing.

very very intrigued. love southern tiers imperial oatmeal south so im very interested in how this one came out. pours rootbeer with just a tiny tiny head that sticks to the sides of the rim, nose is light compared to my last beer. light chocolate, spices, quite earthy. taste is very refreshing, up front it starts out like a lager, light taste but then it moves to the back of the tongue and it gathers some syrupy flavours. maple syrup, a bit sweet but well balanced. dry dry finish. i like this one, not as much as i thought i would, but it is very, very good.

Bought this bomber in Northville, MI. It poured a dark brown, with off white head. The aroma was strong, and sweet, with some raisin and caramel. The flavor followed with lots of caramaly goodness, and some slight grassy hops. Weird, but great beer. Cheers!

Bottle. A lot more easy to drink than you would think of an "Imperial Black IPA". Soy, raisin and hops in the nose. Taste of licorice, citrus hops and some smoke.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a small beige head. Lots of hops and licorice. Too thin body for an IIPA but good for a black IPA.

Bottle 22oz. - Poured black with thin tan head. Aroma - fresh oranges, smokey black malt and toffee. Brings a smile to my face!! Flavor - Tastes like a mix between a stout and ipa, you get the dark fruits and soy sauce from the stout. Citrus and floral hops from ipa, damn fine combination!! Palate - medium bodied with decent carbonation. Texture is slick and finish is bitter and last for awhile. Overall - Great job by Southern Tier, really nice mix of two different styles!! Price is a little much but worth a try if you love stouts and ipa’s

Poured dark brown with faint brown highlights when held up to the light. Thin tan head. Nose is roasty, coffee, dark fruits (plum, raisins). First sip and the alcohol is present. Hoppy and dry as well, roasty, slightly burnt flavor. A bit harsh on the tongue.
