Commercial Description:
IPA stands for India Pale Ale and ours is an American version of the classic style. IPA’s namesake lies in its colonial roots. British soldiers on their way to India dark a lot of beer, but found it would go stale on the long voyages. Meanwhile, brewers knew that by adding more hops, the beer would stay fresh. Voila! A new style was born and it is one we are proud to brew. Southern Tier IPA is a triple-hopped on its journey to your glass for a fully aromatic experience.

12 oz bottle poured into glass. Hazy golden color with a bubbly white head that lasted throughout the glass. Aroma of hops (duh) piney and citrus possibly some wheat. Very easy to drink IPA, not too bitterly hoppy but has the taste that makes it an IPA. Nice long finish. Overall another hit from southern tier but not what I would expect from the company and a great style beer like the IPA.

12 oz bottle consumed in the parking lot near Yankee Stadium thanks to bff. Yellow orange color with a little head and some lacing. Pretty low level of hops for an IPA and goes down super smooth. I like it.

Poured from a 12oz bottle and served in a shaker. This IPA poured a clear amber with a thin head of beige foam that slowly faded away. Some light lacing was left around the glass. The aroma included resiny pine cones, oranges, and a stong caramel note. Moderately sweet. Caramel and citrus were quickly swept away by a nice, lingering bite. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and had light carbonation. Well made.

Smells alot of cascade hops. Pours golden amber. Soft head. Tastes hoppy and earthy, very little malt taste. Warming as it goes down and piney aftertaste. Not bad.

Bottle. Poured an orange color with a small off-white head. The aroma was slightly hoppy, but really didn’t have any distinct scents. The beer had a medium body, thin texture, light carbonation, and a very slight bitter finish. As with the aroma, the flavor had a slight bitterness paired with a bit of citrus and caramel, but nothing too discinct. Overall, this was not a bad beer, just not a typical IPA. As the company’s description says, this is definately an American version of an IPA.

9/24/08 - Draft - Pours orange/yellow with white head. Citrus and pine nose with mild alt character. Tate is slight caramel and toffee with lots of clean hop flavor, citrus and pine and moderate bitter. Pretty standard IPA, but tasty.

Pours a sea foam head and has an amber body. Light hoppy aroma that is a little piny and a little citrusy. The beer itself is not overhopped like many other IPAs and as such it doesn’t rely on hops to give it all of its flavour. There are citrus notes and it and a sufficient amount of malts. Overall this beer doesn’t stand out in my opinion, but there is certainly nothing at all wrong with it.

Strong hops. Citrus grapefruit taste. Light yellow orange appearance. Excellent American pale ale.
