Commercial Description:
St. Nicholas, aka Santa Claus, is a magical figure, the bringer of gifts and an icon of holiday spirit. Forgotten by most is his evil side kick and enforcer of ‘the list’. European tradition says while St. Nick is busy delivering presents to good little boys and girls, Krampus hands out punishments to the bad. A fanged, goat-horned bully, the Christmas Devil uses sticks and chains to beat the naughty children. Dark malts and aromatic hops create the diabolical spirit of this brew. It is finished with lager yeast and aged cold for no less than 30 days. This Imperial Helles Lager will warm even the darkest hearts. This season, replace the cookies with a bottle of Krampus. If he happens to pay a visit, toast to him with this devilish brew. Merry Kramp-mas to all, and to all a good pint!

Bottle thanks to j12601, also thanks to aplusbreaks for sharing a bottle. Poured a clear copper-orange color with a thick, dense off-white head that slowly faded and left a good amount of lacing. Aroma of moderately leafy hops with a bit of pine and a metallic hint, some fruit (mainly lemon), a bit of dish soap, juniper, and some alcohol. Smooth, moderately sweet entry with a bit of honey and graininess quickly leads into an overpowering juniper berry kick paired with a moderately bitter hoppiness that finishes with some lemon, and a perfume-like dish soapiness and that is lightly dry. Moderate carbonation and almost syrupy, over-whelming mouthfeel. It’s weird, I tried this beer once and thought it was pretty nice, but now that I sit down and drink it I don’t feel even close to the same way. I hate to agree with mj, I really do, but this doesn’t work for me. Thanks again Jay.

Bomber: Pours a clear medium orange with a thin off-white head, aroma has strong pine and grass with a touch of lemon, brown sugar and grapes. Thick bodied with a sticky mouthfeel, mild carbonation and a slightly grainy ending. Starts very bitter and ends much less so, almost making it to lightly sweet. Alcohol is very well hidden and doesn’t show itself until the aftertaste.

Cold 22oz bottle: Pours a clear medium amber color with a small, foamy off-white head that lingers. Aroma is of oranges, sweet malts and spices. Taste is of sweet malts and pine spiked hops well blended with juniper and citrus. Ending is of brown sugar and citrus notes. Medium to heavy bodied and smooth, with ample carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden. :)

[1883-20081205] Cask. Mildly sweaty grassy hops aroma. Clear, orange red body with a long-lasting creamy white head. Hoppy grassy yeast flavour finishes dry. Medium-full body. Quite good.

This beer is just plain weird. Its not every day you find an imperial helles lager imperial. It wasnt really bad, but it wasnt as good as an imperial lager or wheat whine. Idk, not really my style, I would probably drink it again and I give them respect for making something this weird.

Appearance: Pours a crystal clear, golden-amber body with a frothed, lasting, off-white head. Smell: Toasted pale malts, a tad grainy, along with hoppy notes of musky lemons, fresh-cut grasses, and spice. Taste: Pale malts and toasted grains with a medium-low caramel sweetness. Redolent hop addition that’s at times citrusy, grassy, spicy, and earthy also delivers a medium-high bitterness. Some alcohol warmth enters the scene, as does a final taste of pale malts, before the citric, longly bitter finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is rather smooth. Drinkability: It’s a hoppy, imperialized helles alright. If that’s your bag, then you might dig this one. Otherwise, if you go in with a little understanding, a little open-mindedness, you still just might like it.
