Commercial Description:
St. Nicholas, aka Santa Claus, is a magical figure, the bringer of gifts and an icon of holiday spirit. Forgotten by most is his evil side kick and enforcer of ‘the list’. European tradition says while St. Nick is busy delivering presents to good little boys and girls, Krampus hands out punishments to the bad. A fanged, goat-horned bully, the Christmas Devil uses sticks and chains to beat the naughty children. Dark malts and aromatic hops create the diabolical spirit of this brew. It is finished with lager yeast and aged cold for no less than 30 days. This Imperial Helles Lager will warm even the darkest hearts. This season, replace the cookies with a bottle of Krampus. If he happens to pay a visit, toast to him with this devilish brew. Merry Kramp-mas to all, and to all a good pint!

bomber - clear, dark copper with bubbly white head fading to the edges; sweet aromas of sugary hops, yeast, lemons and grains; crisp and bitter; thin bodied but full of flavor; drinks like an imperial pale ale; smooth, tasty; good stuff when fresh

Shared bomber between friends at Lunar Brewing Co. My portion was poured to a snifter and exhibited a fairly clear, orangy amber hue, with modest, light tan foam to a head that reduced to a ring, light film, and left some clingy lacing spots. The nose was pleasantly surprising for a Helles with malt mellowed notes of fruit and grain sweetness, and light citrus. The flavor was similar notes, with a balancing and smoothing malt nicely delivering all to the palate. A very nice, seasonal variation.

Beautiful cherry amber color, modest head in big botle from Whole foods DC. Lots of hops for a Helles and the alcohol is just right. Plenty of malts also.

22oz bottle served in a Boulevard Tank 7 tulip. Poured a clear amber/gold with a finger of white head. Malty aroma with some piney hops. Some carmelized sugar in the aroma and a hint of alcohol. Medium bodied with a fair amount of carbonation. Plenty of malt in the flavor with a clean lager profile. Good amount of hop bitterness. Dry hoppy finish. A little hot from the alcohol. This was like a lager version of a barley wine. Not bad, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it next season.

On tap @ Judges Bench-Ellicott City Md.-Clear copper color w/a moderate tan head. Sweet aroma of alcohol. Sticky sweet flavor w/a strong hop bite & an overwhelming alcohol flavor. Didn’t have much of anything else going on to balance it out; pretty one dimensional. This brewer seems to be very hit or miss-at least for me. It’s either good or blah! I’d call this a miss.

22 oz. brown bomber bottle. 2009 batch. Poured out a dark copper color, with a sticky tan head. Aromas are fruity, like star fruit & raisins. Flavors are somewhat fruity as well, with a nice biscuit malt background. Subtle hops round out the flavor profile. Medium mouthfeel, decent body. Sweet aftertaste for a lager. Really good lager overall.

Clear copper body topped by a small white ring of a head. Its quite clingy to the glass, hopefully I did not use a dirty glass! Aroma is sweet and alcoholic with a large dose of citrus. Citrus, in a helles? Imperial or otherwise... The flavor is at first acceptable, sweet and alcoholic, but there are notes of rotting vegetables that when combined with the alcohol and the rising temp of the beer as I drink it. Not a fan.

Clear amber/orange to red with sparse white head. Nose is grain, orange, and allspice. Taste some grain and honey, chicken broth, ginger. Bitter. Aftertaste is not good.

A - amber in color nice head that left thin wisps of lacing S - first a bit of hops followed by malt. had to really search for the aroma T - hint of hop at first but mostly malt. sweet finish M - slightly thick with almost no carbonation D - just ok, wouldn’t try it again Overall a little disappointing and now the least favorite of my southern tier brews
