22oz. pours black with tan head. aroma is very mild with cocoa, vanilla, and a hint of coffee. mouthful is smack full of good things. it starts with a sweet chocolate vibe then is taken over by the coffee and hop bitterness. the finish lingers with a nice bitterness. starbucks should add this to their menu... a real coffee bar!

Nearly opaque with a small lasting tan head and very good lace. The aroma is the expected chocolate, vanilla, coffee, burnt sugar, roasted and charred malts and a touch of plum. The taste starts chocolaty sweet but the coffee and hop bitterness rounds out the palate and prevents this from completely becoming a cloy mess like ST Creme Brulle or ST Choklat. Still it is a tad too sweet for my liking. Some notes of mint, herbs and minerals pop in and out upon the palate as well. The mouth feel is lush and soft, a touch astringent. That said a solid brew that could have used a bit more coffee influence if you ask me. Not as good as ST Oat or ST Jah-va but better than the two mentioned above.

Pours black with dark brown-ruby at the edges, and a momentary head that fades quickly to a few tan bubbles to form a ring, lots of chocolate on the nose, aromas of chocolate cake, brownies, roasted malt, milk chocolate, and faint coffee, there is faint alcohol in the background, I got flavors of chocolate, dark roasted malt and some coffee in the background, and alcohol warmth, the finish has a dark roasted malt and roasted coffee bitterness, may be a bit astringent, the 11% alcohol becomes more evident as the beer warms, mouth feel is a little thin, I found the chocolate to be out front on the nose and on the palate more so than the coffee, I am somewhat partial to chocolate, so, I do like this stuff.

Wow. Serious warm chocolate syrup/roasted coffee notes on the nose and definitely in the taste. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel that slightly coats the mouth. Definitely get the kick of bitter alc. as it goes over the palate. Carbonation is minimal and doesn’t interfere with the overall taste.

Bottle from Once Upon a Vine South on 06/27/2009. Dark black body with a medium creamy light brown head. Big chocolate aroma with light coffee in the background, light roast and light bitterness. Big sweet chocolate flavor with some coffee notes, faint roast, caramel and some mild bitter in the finish. Medium full body with moderately low carbonation. Hides the alcohol well.

Always amazed by these beers. Thick and rich, syrupy to a fault but only barely. One sniff and -pow- chocolate and coffee. There you have it. Espresso milkshake in your bottle. Thick and rich in the glass, it has a stickiness like brownie batter. It’s a little sweet, a little much to enjoy fully, but damn! it’s tasty and belly warming. You can feel the calories work their magic in your stomach.

Overall Impression: Another beer I’d been meaning to rate, had a bit of a friend’s bottle last week at the Brickskeller, and it reminded me I need to rate this one. This is a really tasty stout, nice coffee flavor. A good brew all around.

22 oz – The Wine Source. Black, thick tan creamy head. Soft tootsie pop cream aromas warm to swirls of dark chocolate coffee and vanilla from beginning to end. Candied coffee and toasted vanilla bean flavors balance well on a rich chocolate foundation. Medium to full bodied, medium carbonation, bittersweet finish. Good brew, but the blend takes away from the originals in my mind…
