Mild butterscotch smell and flair. Body is rich, moderately thick, but somewhat harsh, tannic, oak heavy, astringent. Still a nice stout. travita (1970), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 14, 2009 Pours very dark brown with a smallish tan head. The aroma has thick rich chocolate, ice cream sweetness and roasty malt. Medium / thick lightly rough body with sharper than expected carbonation. The flavor starts out with creamy milk chocolate, bits of bitterness of dark chocolate and a bit of coffee along with dark roasted malt. The finish has more coffee bitterness and some phenolic spice. Very nice impy stout. juiceisloose (678), Windermere, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 13, 2009 Courtesy bconley. Pours a dark brown body with mahoganny at the edges topped by a small, foamy beige colored head. The aroma is full of hershey’s chocolate syrup blended with some sweet espresso and a hint of vanilla. You can tell from the smell how rich this beer is going to be. The flavor follows suit with the melted hershey’s bar, chocolate fudge, and sweet espresso blending together for a very sweet and rich flavor. There is just a touch of vanilla in there to break up all chocolate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and very creamy on the mouthfeel. The finish is long and chocolatey like you would expect. I wish there was some more roastiness but the chocolate overpowers. This is a tasty beer, but like most of their beers you can only drink so much at a time. dnstone (280), Mons, Belgium

Thick, malty, and chocolatey but not overly "dessert-ish"...though I would definately drink it for dessert. ericandersnavy (1141), crossroads, Texas, USA

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 1/5 | 8/20 | Jul 12, 2009 I am just not feeling these chocolate beers from Southern Tier. I found this one to be about 95% Choklat and 5% Java in my opinion. It has that super ridiculous foody taste that turned me off with Choklat, as in it tastes like thick thick chocolate syrupy milk and not beer at all. I really couldn’t drink more than two or three sips of this without being overwhelmed. Not for the faint of heart I guess, but I like my imperial stouts to burn a little, have roast complexes and black flavors, and this just tastes like malted chocolate.
