Aroma is mostly piney hops with a good deal of oak. Hop aroma is not as fresh and pungent as the regular version. Flavor is exactly what you would expect from an oaked IPA. Oak and hops. There is a decent malt backbone but it’s really dominated by the oak and hops. Full bodied with light carbonation. alexsdad06 (1091), Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 3, 2009 22 oz. bottle. Pours a clear dark golden/light amber color with a medium lasting white head. The aroma has a huge amount of hops with citrus, pine, and herbal notes. There is a high level of sweet malt as well. The flavor is much of the same but presents smoother and softer than the regular version. The hops are more subdued probably due to the oak aging. I’m not sure it works for this beer. As it warmed, more of the DIPA character came out. I wanted this from the beginning: big hoppy with enough sweetness to keep a little balance. What I did like from the oak aging was the added hint of vanilla that the regular doesn’t have. Glouglouburp (2859), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 2, 2009 In short: A tasty but too sweet IIPA. Inferior to the regular Un*Earthly
How: Bottle 22oz. Sent to me by dmschefke. Thanks a lot Dave.
The look: Clear dark golden body topped by a generous long-lasting off-white head
In long: Nose is mega hoppy with an equal amount of citrusy and pine-tree hops. Taste is a big letdown. Somehow the mega hoppy nose only translates to a mildly hoppy taste. A lot caramel and then even more caramel. I’ve had a many barley wines that were not as sweet as this beer. Fruity citrusy hops provide a mild bitterness but no dryness whatsoever. As with the regular Un*Earthly the alcohol is very well hidden. Unlike the regular Un*Earthly this beer is not well balanced. The carbonation is softer than with the regular Un*Earthly and I found it a bit too soft. This is a good brew but and I’m complaining because I find this new offering a step down from the regular Un*Earthly. They could just have brewed the regular Un*Earthly and used the oak to make wooden toenail clippers. Even that would have been a better use of the oak. KornDogg (211), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 28, 2009 Bottle, pours a hazy, orange-yellow body with off-white head. Nice grapefruit aroma with sweet malts, sugar/caramel along with floral and pine hops. Flavor is similar with the grapfruit initially on the palate followed by citrus and sweet malts and then finishing with the floral and pine hops. Nice, smooth mouthfeel; well-balanced and lightly carbonated. GRM (1273), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada
