Clear copper with nice, but fading head. Obvious oaky vanilla and cherry aromas come off, but they are more subtly combined with the pined and woodsy hop offerings. The flavor itself is balanced between a pronounced but yeilding hop bitterness to a rounded and more gentle oaky vanilla presence, which takes the edge off the hard citrus pine and provides for a nice transition between mid to late palate. Overall the brew doesnt drink as heavily as the 11% it says on the label. Smoothed out but lacks the depth in complexity that I look for in these oak aged creations. Still a killer brew though, wicked tasty and kicks like a mule

Bountiful head, slow to diminish. Lots of lumpy lace on the glass. Amber, on the side of darker, a little bit of cloudiness. Plenty of floral hop in the nose. Mild, lighter malt is also present. Tastes like a traditional American IPA. Lots of harsher bitter flavored hops. Initial sip barely shows the neutral malt presence. The rest is bitterness through the long aftertaste. Good body, low carbonation. A very good example of the style.

Bottle from State Line in Elkton, MD. I love this store and it was probably my last visit there for a long time thanks to the economy. Pours a slightly hazy orange amber with a two finger pale yellow white head. Aroma of grapefruity hops and vanilla. Medium to full bodied with a slight syrupy texture. Flavor of toffee and butterscotch, countered by nice, but not overdone grapefruit bitterness and sweet vanilla from the oak. Sweet and slightly sticky finish. Not as complex as I was hoping, but solid enough to try.

A light caramel colored pour with a decent light tan head. Aroma is tart grapefruit hop. Flavor is that grapefruit again along with a ton of sweetness. It is hugely hopped but the sweetness far surpasses the hops. There is also some nice spices that include cinnamon. Wood is clearly present and that oak does some interesting things here. It smoothes out the edges and adds a dimension of its own.

Beautiful golden look with a nice white head that fades rather slowly. Very aggressive nose but the taste on this one is massively hopped. Probably a more pronounced grapefruit hoppines than any beer that I have ever had. Thereis a huge maltiness to this that at least attempts to measure pu to the hoppiness. This is grade A .

2009-05-02. Crisp orange amber body with a modest white head. Aroma starts with strong oaky overtones, muted hops and alcohol follow. Flavour is likewise very oaky up front. The oak takes over to the detriment of the base beer, with hops and malt fighting to be heard. (6+) Average plus palate. Too oaky by far. Bottle from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo.

pours a clear orange with a tint of red, small light beige head, and good lacing. smell of light grapefruit, toffee, and roasted nuts. taste is creamy, grapefruit, slight pine, hops, few malts, some caramel, some white pepper, and burnt wood, ends on the bitter side and a little dry.

Pours a beautiful deep orange /amber color with a frothy thick off white head. Aroma is hops right up front with some vanilla, some malt, a bit of caramel. Flavor is very hop forward, but not aggressively so. The hops are there, but a little of that oak vanilla characteristic really mellows the hops out. Big full mouthfeel, a little thick, but the hops cut through and the oak hints add a lot of depth. This is a wonderful beer.
