pours a solid amber color with a decent head. Aroma is quite citrusy, but with some sweet notes, somewhat like vanilla, probably from the aging. Sweetness from the oak aging continues to be prevalent in the taste, and combines with the heavy citrus flavor. Not my favorite DIPA, but I can certainly appreciate it. Palate is pretty sticky- well crafted brew overall.

Tasted 3/23/09. 22oz bomber. Filtered with a deep golden hue. Ring of off-white head. The nose holds a pleasant mix of abundant hops and an oaky, vanilla note. The vanilla and citrus really play off of each other. Medium to full bodied and similar to the original, but more sticky and cloying. The oak is overt and somewhat a deterent for me. Now, this beer is totally well crafted and has a wonderful palate, but it’s just not for me. My Chardonnay drinking friends loved it, as expected. Once again, the duality of candy vanilla and grapefruit citrus hops is really nice.

22oz bottle. Pours copper with a minimal white head. Lively carbonation. Aroma is of vanilla, hops, citrus, and caramel. Taste is lots of vanilla and oak up front. The hops are extremely subdued. There are very minimal notes of hops, grapefruit, caramel, and spice. Mouthfeel is thick and sticky. The oak aging killed most of the typical IPA characters. The end result is very woody, but also very bland. A huge dissapointment.

This is another huge success from ST! I wasn’t sure what to expect. The only other beer that I’ve had that could possibly compare to this one is DFH Burton Baton. This one is much different, and dare I say better....hmmmm. It’s cleaner than the Burton...not as sticky or cloying. The oak stands out very well and it all comes together for a very unique brew. Well Done!

Another over the top beer from Southern Tier. 22 oz. brown bomber bottle. No freshness date seen. Poured out a deep copper color, with a super sticky tan colored head. Aromas are of oak barrels right off the bat, along with a mellow hoppiness. Sweet caramel malts round out the aromas. Flavors are sweet caramel malts, some oak barrel, subtle hops. Medium mouthfeel, medium body. Alcohol is well hidden. A superb IIPA by any standards.

The aroma is subtle on this one. Not particularly hoppy really, kinda sweet. The most interesting thing about it is the toasted breadiness, with maybe a hint of oak but it’s different from most. Definitely has some alcohol warmth, but not too much or anything. Undercarbonated-just needs a little more. Flavor- the hops come through more, with a nice wheat character. Hops are citrusy and spicy. Oak comes out in the finish-blends well with the lasting hop biterness, along w/ malt sweetness.

Pours a nice amber with a bubbly white head. Aroma is nice and hoppy, but the oak manages to give it a little more character. There’s plenty of caramel pine for sure. Flavor is a bit sweet, but the bite of the pine hops definitely comes through. The oak definitely mellows the bite though and makes it really good in my opinion. Finish is a little sticky and leaves a little pine. Definitely a really tasty beer. Really good.

Fine looking golden pour, off white head, nice lacing. Sweet caramel aroma, tempered by a bit of pine bitterness and some tropical fruit. The flavor is just nuts. Tons of oak up front, followed by vanilla, caramel, piney hops and a strange, but good ginger flavor. Full mouthfeel, pretty slick. Finishes nice and dry. Very good, very unique double IPA.
